you don't have to be a sports fan to like this film (i'm not). i was expecting something like The Mighty Ducks franchise (which i also like), and though it contains less hockey than those movies, it's still enjoyable.  believe it or not, to me it's more reminiscent of The Goonies (w00t!): same sense of adventure, exploration, and character development. the bleak, icy Canadian cinematography is also a treat. in fact, most of the film's setting is away from civilization. what's great about it is it captures the spirit of '80s, '90s, etc. flicks. it shows a group of teen boys relying on each other and themselves to navigate the world and personal problems in their lives—a far cry from today's media which portrays technology-obsessed teens. the highlight scene for me is definitely their jump over the giant ice gap; if you're not invested in the movie by then you might as well give up lol - @Sunday, December 21, 2014 10:30 PM
