« Small Town Crime » est un thriller policier agréable doté d’une histoire intéressante sans être réellement originale. Le développement des personnages et l’intrigue apparaissent également familières. Le rythme est plaisant et les quelques scènes d’action sont cinglantes et bien orchestrées. La photographie, la mise en scène, et même la bande originale offrent un faux air kitch au métrage. La distribution offre de très bonnes prestations, mais s’avère dominée par la performance de premier plan de John Hawkes qui campe un personnage atypique. L’ensemble est fort sympathique et s’avère suffisamment captivant pour en faire un divertissement au-dessus de la moyenne.
