Action Documentary

6.9 / 10

In his signature black turtleneck and blue jeans, shrouded in shadows below a milky apple, Steve Jobs' image was ubiquitous. But who was the man on the stage? What accounted for the grief of so many across the world when he died? From Oscar-winning director Alex Gibney, 'Steve Jobs: The Man In The Machine' is a critical examination of Jobs who was at once revered as an iconoclastic genius and a barbed-tongued tyrant. A candid look at Jobs' legacy featuring interviews with a handful of those close to him at different stages in his life, the film is evocative and nuanced in capturing the essence of the Apple legend and his values which shape the culture of Silicon Valley to this day.

Steve jobs says he doesn't care about power, doesn't care about money, but all his life he has only pursued power and money. - @Monday, January 11, 2016 3:04 AM

What is power? Power is a billionaire with and agenda to smear a dead competitor. Power is buying a Presidential Administration to stop litigation. Power is making sure that as many negative movies and 'documentaries' as possible re-write history. The first PC (personal computer) was an Apple. Only later did Bill use the media to re-write that fact. That's power. Control of the media for personal revenge. - @Tuesday, January 5, 2016 9:32 PM

Shame on CNN! If you want an asshole the king is Bill Gates! Now that Steve is dead he can potentially fund a bunch of smears against Jobs. Bill Gates singlehandedly destroyed more up and coming computer companies, both hard ware and soft ware oriented by the tactics of 'Vapor ware", and predatory pricing. Read how Bill used his billions wisely by buying a Republican Presidential administration. In the 1990s the catalog of computer companies which dealt in software, hardware, peripherals etc ran to 800 pages (yes 8 hundred pages) in 'Computer Shopper" the bible of the computer users. By the end of the 1990s most were gone. Microsoft had a lot of explaining to do. Do the research! In the 1990s, Microsoft adopted exclusionary licensing under which PC manufacturers were required to pay for an MS-DOS license even when the system shipped with an alternative operating system. Critics attest that it also used predatory tactics to price its competitors out of the market and that Microsoft erected technical barriers to make it appear that competing products did not work on its operating system. The proposed remedy (dividing Microsoft into two companies) was never applied because the Republicans elected George (the stupid one) Bush president. The new administration announced that in the interest of ending the case as quickly as possible, it would no longer seek to break the company up, and that it would stop investigating claims of illegal tying of products. - @Tuesday, January 5, 2016 9:27 PM

Steve Wozniak was actually the one that built the first apple and/or Mac and Steve Jobs was mostly a sales person to start with.I think Wozniak didn't get what he deserved from all the hard work he did....But that's my take on it all. - @Monday, January 4, 2016 4:28 AM

it's off topic, but i wonder if the Republicans haven't created their own perfect storm ... a never ending supply of assorted bogeymen on the one hand - an amazing assortment of 'can do' arms on the other ?? - @Saturday, January 2, 2016 4:41 PM

Wow, it' really trendy to take shots at successful people like Arnold Schwarzenegger and Steve Jobs. Everything I've seen that demonizes jobs STILL makes him look better than Bill Gates. - @Wednesday, December 30, 2015 1:47 AM

All this shit about "he's made everything," "he single-handedly created the industry," etc. Why do people apparently not know Steve Wozniak existed? No one ever talks about his contributions in these Steve Jobs films, presumably just because he left the company before any of the new-age mobile devices shipped. - @Monday, December 28, 2015 6:59 AM

I just finished watching the 2015 movie "Steve Jobs: The Man in the Machine" I have always been a Windows guy and never did like Apple or it's software design. But now i really hate Steve Jobs!!! What a lying, backstabbing, thieving, egotistical, narcissist, money grubbing dick. I think all Apple product owners should watch this movie. Anybody with a brain wouldn't buy from this dead mans company - especially Americans (tax evasion). The fucker didn't even want to give any of the profits to charity. - @Monday, November 30, 2015 10:01 AM

Beware: This documentary is made by folks who, for whatever reason, dislike Steve Jobs. That means, if you should watch this documentary, what you will see there, is nothing inspiring. It has been chosen and cut and edited in order to show you more of the negative side of Steve. By the way, if you think about it, there are a small percentage of people in the world right now who probably don't like you. If you get more popular, the same perentage will likely hold. (Besides, negativity gets our attention. It works. It triggers our emotions - that's why news media is so negative, full of terror, like Game of Thrones. For some reason negativity gets the attention from most of us, attention which advertisers, for example, will be more than happy to buy.) - @Thursday, November 12, 2015 7:50 AM

Wow, so much hate in here. Hate for Jobs, hate for Apple. What did they ever do to you? They probably did more for the environment and innovation then the rest of the industry combined. If anything deserves an analytical documentary, then it's the witch hunt-that started after Jobs' death. That's my view - am I still entitled to it, haters? - @Monday, October 26, 2015 8:31 PM

I love Apple products but I'm beginning to believe why many people had a problem with Steve Jobs. In many cases, his team would design and create products, than he takes full credit. Many people who shared about his past state he was selfish and very disrespectful. A company that focuses only on them and not giving back to their community, especially paying taxes... disturbs me a bit. I still love their products but only wish Apple could STOP thinking they're going to rule the world with their goods. - @Saturday, October 10, 2015 3:49 PM

Looks like they stole the tile from Michael Jackson's great song "Man in the Mirror". Even the name of this movie is not original. One similarity: both were geniuses in their respective fields. One difference: Jobs was an asshole. Michael was always nice, kind, respectful and humble. Just ask the people who worked with these "geniuses". - @Friday, October 9, 2015 4:58 AM

Ill give him all the credit in the world for pushing the personal PC but i like how this doc dismisses some of the cult like ideas about jobs. When i think of Apple i think Jobs really was brilliant. He sold colorful computers that were over priced and under powered compared to the PC market at the time. I still laugh at people who by Apple products because to me its like saying i know nothing about computers but doesn't it look cute. - @Wednesday, September 9, 2015 9:26 PM

I saw this over the weekend, and even though I'm no Apple fanboy, I have yet to see a documentary that does his life (both the good and the bad) justice. There was not one mention of Microsoft, the company was that so interwoven with Apple's decisions and directions. Very little was said about what led up to his dismissal from Apple other than Jobs' comment about hiring the wrong guy (Scully). You can get a more complete picture by watching different documentaries about him, but I guess it would be too long to try and make the "definitive" one. - @Wednesday, September 9, 2015 11:17 AM
