Shy Brenda Thompson writes naive children's stories to amuse herself. Stifled and desperate for a man of her own, she leaves Liverpool, telling her mom she's pregnant, and gets a job in a boutique in London. She moves in with the promiscuous but good-hearted Caroline but the mod set shuns her for her plain looks. Then she kidnaps a strange young man's dog, so as to perhaps get to know him while returning it. The young man turns out to be Peter, a psychopath with a predilection for killing beautiful things. He renames Brenda Wendy, and they start a hopeful, if strange, relationship. It might have a chance, if it weren't for Peter's murderous secrets.

Am I correct in thinking it's Peter Cushing doing the movie narration? It sounds like his distinctive voice. - @Saturday, September 15, 2018 9:06 PM

Is this the film where the girl from oop North (Rita T) goes to a swimming bath and a young man comes on to her, and she goes to a boarding house and the landlady comes on to her? I remember those hilarious scenes. If it's not this movie, I'd love to know the correct title! - @Wednesday, June 20, 2018 12:25 PM

A morality tale that exposes the incipient solipsistic psychosis of the Peter pan philosophy of the counter-cultural epoch. It's results are with us today in the Peter Pan dropouts who shoot up schools in America, and the postmodern generation X moral bankruptcy.. - @Monday, March 26, 2018 5:05 PM

This film was a very good movie in all it's aspects very well done with a special style.I seen it years ago even had it on VHS and it was always my favorite film. Many parts of the movie were true to life in this dangerous society we live in.KUDOS to those that brought this film back to resurface.thank you HAMMER for seeing potential in such a great(under rated)film.I loved the directors viewpoint.I even cried like a baby when he murdered that little puppy in such cruel fashion.loved this movie problem is if some shit director gets it it would made into a really bad remake like so many other great old cinema. 🌝🌝🌝 - @Tuesday, August 29, 2017 3:38 PM

Its a very good film this, not the usual hammer horror film more of a slow burning psychological horror film. - @Friday, November 18, 2016 4:54 PM

This clearly capitalized on the "weirdness" of the Hippie culture...and it capitalized on a sort of Charles Manson-type of storyline. - @Wednesday, August 26, 2015 7:54 AM

I love Hammer Films, and am thrilled to have 7 of the new Blu Ray releases. I quite enjoyed this film, but there is one hysterical mistake that I clocked straight away. You can quite plainly see a crew member hinding as Rita Tushingham goes in to one of the rooms. Now why the editor didn't see this or indeed someone at the 'rushes' is quite beyond me? I know Hammer Films were shot on small budgets, but they usually had very good people behind the camera. Long live Hammer! - @Thursday, February 28, 2013 12:04 PM
