Walter Hill directed it, but was credited as Thomas Lee as the directors guild stopped using Alan Smithee. Francis Ford Coppola was brought in to re-edit the flick as the studio wouldn't pony up the cash for re-shoots and Hill bolted. It's not a bad flick, but it did have problems with test audiences and was not promoted well. People compare this film to event horizon but I found that if you see Event Horizon once you kinda don't need to see it again. Lawrence Fishburne was overused, the plot in Event Horizon was hokey, biblical and messy. Ive been searching for a long time trying to find this film because I never saw the whole thing when it came out. The scene with Bassett and Spader where they are sharing the pear inside the bottle of brandy is perfect. The imagery of a pear inside the bottle captures the symbolism of the film as the crew is trapped inside the ship much like the pear is trapped inside the bottle. or you could say the ship is the pear and its trapped unable to escape its environment, the blue star, without breaking the bottle, shattering the glass universe when the ship dimension shifts back to earth. i highly recommend this movie because its stunning visual effects and simple and provocative narrative. - @Sunday, April 10, 2016 10:39 AM
