He was a low budget exploitation filmmaker known for The Last House On The Left (David Hess is in Swamp Thing & was main villain in that film) and The Hills Have Eyes. It's a properly unique movie, it's really campy and kind of silly but that's why it's a lot of fun to watch with with friends. The swamp scenery is nice , and the Swamp Thing design itself is pretty damn cool.
