I saw this film as a kid and absolutely loved it. Avery Schreiber did not get enough screen time, but what he did get he used every second of it. Great comedic actor. - @Wednesday, August 15, 2018 2:56 AM

How long has it been since the narrator of a movie trailer kept saying the same thing over and over again to the point where it got annoying? - @Friday, June 9, 2017 1:36 AM

Ugh... this movie sucked so bad! Even Robert Shaw reprising his role as Quint, Darth Vader, and the original (emotionless) Captain Janeway couldn't save it. I tried three times to enjoy it... I mean seriously, just watch the way the bad guy captures the damsel. He fakes a heart attack after he and Janeway throw insults back and forth like on a school yard, and as he's passed out, grabs Janeway! Terrible movie, terrible story, horrible acting... need I go on? - @Tuesday, November 22, 2016 7:49 PM

it is a fun movie. you just cant take it seriously. I think the whole.idea behind it was to make fun of the whole genre of the errol.flynn type robin hood silliness. - @Saturday, November 12, 2016 4:02 PM

One of the first movies I remember seeing when I was a child. Robert Shaw was very memorable here. - @Friday, January 8, 2016 12:37 AM

I wonder if part of the swordfight between Alejandro and Elena in The Mask of Zorro was inspired by Ms. Bujold and Mr. Shaw in this clip. - @Monday, November 16, 2015 4:58 PM

I really liked this film. But then Genevieve Bujold is my favorite actress so I'm a bit prejudice on that front. But it was a fun movie to watch. - @Monday, February 2, 2015 3:30 AM

Inspired by this movie (many years ago), I took a fencing class and found out I wasn't bad at it. Also I love the soundtrack. - @Wednesday, July 9, 2014 3:23 PM

this wasn't really a bad movie, but it was very formula for the time. Geoffrey Holder probably was the second choice for the James Earl Jones role and was being the back-up if James had not signed. Robert Shaw was still riding high off of Jaws, so he probably pitched this idea.  People forget that Peter Boyle was, at one time, a dramatic actor, but his casting Young Frankenstein and the praise he got, this was probably him trying to distance himself from it.  - @Wednesday, June 25, 2014 4:28 PM

Best things about the flick: 1. Robert Shaw 2. ship 3. soundtrack 4. underrated bad guy performance by Peter Boyle (who is a "comedian" only to younger viewers) who made his bones in purely dramatic roles of varied types for decades before landing on Who Loves Raymond and 30 yrs before the then odd-casting of him in Young Frankenstein 5. always liked the Irish-English hate thing (though obsolete somewhat now), and here Lynch the pirate is Irish played by very well by Shaw against the arrogant corrupt "your Lordship" -said with disdain by Lynch -a man of obviously somewhat more common background. 6. Genevieve is kind of hot and defiant (and is French) 7. James Earl has abs!  Hard to believe to anyone under 50. - @Sunday, June 22, 2014 5:36 AM

Loved this movie as a kid. I do agree on the miscasting, though.  Comedian Peter Boyle playing a baddie with no English accent.  Beau Bridges as the bumbling comic relief bad guy...I mean, I like Beau as an actor, but his comic presence has been wanting in movies I've seen him in where he has to have it. Case in point, him rambling about beating Mechaturtle in "The Wizard".  And James Earl Jones' and Geoffrey Holder's roles should have been reversed. - @Saturday, December 7, 2013 10:48 PM

I think you'll be really disappointed (if you haven't seen it yet). The swordplay looks interesting here, but trailers are usually better than the movies themselves. The best things about this film are the music and the ships. - @Sunday, August 25, 2013 1:40 AM
