Comedy Musical Romance

7.7 / 10

Lucky is tricked into missing his wedding to Margaret by the other members of Pop's magic and dance act, and has to make $25000 to be allowed to marry her. He and Pop go to New York where they run into Penny, a dancing instructor. She and Lucky form a successful dance partnership, but romance is blighted (till the end of the film at least!) by his old attachment to Margaret and hers for Ricardo, the band leader who won't play for them to dance together.

TCM has re-rated this great and truly wonderful film to 4 of 4 stars. Both Roger Ebert and TCM have placed it in the top 100 films ever made, in any category. The high quality of the music and dancing, is quite nicely integrated into a script that DOES make sense...in spite of the obtuse observations of a few stuffy critics (mostly dead), who should have known better. The great and timeless partnership of Fred and Ginger never looked better...and the dancing? Well...The dancing is for the ages. - @Monday, January 4, 2010 8:42 PM

Great job!!! It makes the movie look so good that I'd like to see it in a classic movie theater. - @Friday, January 1, 2010 11:21 AM
