Garland's novel centers on a young nicotine-addicted traveler named Richard, an avid pop-culture buff with a particular love for video games and Vietnam War movies. While at a hotel in Bangkok, he finds a map left by his strange, whacked-out neighbor, who just committed suicide. The map supposedly leads to a legendary island paradise where some other wayward souls have settled.

This movie struck a chord with me that I can't fully explain and has stuck with me all these years. It's definitely a unique film with one of the most beautiful locations ever put on screen. I think it's best to watch this beautiful movie first THEN read the book as the movie provides you with the idea and basic outline and the book gives you the full picture. Both STUNNING creations in their own right. People complain alot about how the movie wasn't like the book but that's just it - a movie and a book are two completely different things. a movie is instant, something you watch, something that gets fed to you and a book is something you are meant to conjure up... scenes that only you can see in your head, even though thousands have read the same thing. - @Wednesday, December 21, 2016 7:44 PM

The Beach é um filme q te cega,com a premissa (q é interessante),com a fotografia (q é L-I-N-D-A) com a beleza do Leo DiCaprio,até que o filme começa bem e termina de uma maneira satisfatória,mas a metade do filme é sofrível pq o ritimo decai muito e a cena do videogame é ridícula (se vc assitiu o filme,vc vai entender). This movie is a bit hypocritical in a way: its about an island untouched by mankind and suggests that the passing of humanity through places takes away the purity of nature. Well. Not only did the moviemakers leave the island completely trashed, also it has become such a popular destination that it is always full of tourists and the sealife is pretty destroyed from all the ships going into the bay...
