After decades of happy marriage and a life surrounded by luxury and wealth, Wayne Hayes, a successful car-rental businessman and his loving wife Eileen, are looking forward to a tranquil and comfortable retirement. However, the dreams of a peaceful life will eventually crumble like a pack of cards, when at gunpoint, Arnold Mack, a disgruntled former employee, will abduct Wayne in broad daylight right in front of his mansion in Pittsburgh. Suddenly, the life of the accomplished entrepreneur and seasoned negotiator rests entirely in the hands of his nervous, yet ruthless kidnapper who has nothing to lose and everything to gain. This is Wayne's most important negotiation in his life, nevertheless, has he the strength to succeed?

I really enjoy thrillers and I found this dvd for cheap at a video store so I decided to buy it. Wonderful actors, but the script left me wanting more. It seems it was building up to something and I sat with baited breath and then suddenly it just ended abruptly. I actually think this story would have worked better if it was a television series. Reason being the characters had more elements to who they were and why they did what they did. Lastly, I wish there was more background into the motivation that was the catalyst for Willem Dafoe's character's actions. - @Sunday, October 29, 2017 7:36 AM

I have just wasted almost two hours of my life that I can never get back now watching a flick that is basically depressing as hell. the theme of the whole movie seems to be: life sucks, one guy works hard to get ahead in life, he ends up dead. The only scenes in the film that I question is, if Redford's character decides to fight for his life after being kidnapped so far away, why not fight this man in the driveway, why not fight like hell& not allow Dafoe's character to take him to the second location? Redford becomes defiant against Dafoe's character, but it seems to be too late into his kidnapping. He should have caused an accident in the car when Dafoe's character was kidnapping him. This is also based on the Sidney Reso kidnapping. The Executive of Exxon, even though this was also based (loosely) on the Dutch businessman Gerrit (look on Wiki) who was also kidnapped in very similar circumstances.
