An unremarkable ghost-writer has landed a lucrative contract to redact the memoirs of Adam Lang, the former UK Prime Minister. After dominating British politics for years, Lang has retired with his wife to the USA. He lives on an island, in luxurious, isolated premises complete with a security detail and a secretarial staff. Soon, Adam Lang gets embroiled in a major scandal with international ramifications that reveals how far he was ready to go in order to nurture UK's "special relationship" with the USA. But before this controversy has started, before even he has closed the deal with the publisher, the ghost-writer gets unmistakable signs that the turgid draft he is tasked to put into shape inexplicably constitutes highly sensitive material.

Interesting plot, and it's interesting that the US govt renewed its efforts to extradite Polanski when the film came out: "On his way to the Zurich Film Festival, Polanski was arrested by Swiss police in September 2009 at the request of the U.S. and held for extradition on a 1978 arrest warrant..." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Ghost_Writer_%28film%29 My only complaint is the assassination scene. No ordinary mortal would or could have done that. It would have been a CIA or MI6 op, then blamed on 'Mooslim terrorists'. Why not kill two birds with one stone? You clean up Blair's... i watched this yesterday because of the good reviews... well for me it was one of the most boring movies ive ever watched... I wanted to stop about 1/3 into the movie but i thought comon something has to happen for almost the entire film. What a boring, pointless movie, don't waste your time on this stuff, unless you are one of those types that likes these kinds of movies.. I'd literally watch paint dry than to watch this again.
