If anyone is interested in finding a behind the scenes featurette for this film, it is likely to be in the UCLA archives. I have proof here: https://www.cinema.ucla.edu/sites/default/files/Steinhart08_ARSC_Award.pdf - @Monday, January 2, 2017 2:48 AM

Saw the two seater version of the Fokker Dr.I with Borgnine on the Airwolf episode again using the clips from this movie. - @Wednesday, April 27, 2016 8:47 AM

Lol, so this is the movie that Val Kilmer jokingly talks about in the Top Gun "The Making Of Top Gun" DVD. - @Monday, June 29, 2015 7:02 AM

Can't anybody put the fight scene on here- just like it was in the movie? - @Monday, June 1, 2015 4:00 PM

YDDES
Yes, Kessler was losely based on Ernst Udet. Kesslers plane even wore the letters "LO", while one of Udets planes was named "Lola". - @Wednesday, March 6, 2013 5:39 PM

it was based on another german ww1 ace during flying circus - @Tuesday, February 26, 2013 8:52 AM

my buddy on heroes in the sky is MR WALDO PEPPER - @Sunday, September 9, 2012 5:26 AM

YDDES
It wasn't The Red Baron (he was killed in WW1). It was a fictious German ace called Kessler (played by the Swedish actor Bo Brundin). - @Tuesday, August 14, 2012 5:00 PM

The trailer was all wrong. It made the movie seem like a cheap tv movie. The poster looked that way, too. No wonder few people went to see it. Too bad. - @Thursday, June 28, 2012 7:02 AM

Thanks for this! I really love this movie, partly because I love Redford and also because I love watching him do dangerous stunts. I read that he did his wingwalking stunts himself, which was crazy. If he had been killed in this merely fun film, I would never have wanted to watch it again. - @Saturday, May 26, 2012 6:04 AM

This was the "Top Gun" of The 70's. I own the DVD, but I wish it had not only subtitles, but was also a special edition with 5.1 Surround Sound. Mr. Redford, get on the ball, will you? - @Wednesday, November 16, 2011 9:19 PM

Saw it when it first showed in the movies , loved it. - @Friday, May 27, 2011 2:41 AM

@1mediaguy Two disturbing scenes, actually, both harrowing. Barnstorming wasn't all fun by any means, and this film makes that perfectly clear. It's easily one of the top10 aviation movies! - @Sunday, March 13, 2011 4:18 PM

@mikecharliemike : I look at this stuff, then I see how we are now--talking about our illnesses, waiting for our government checks, our women contemptuous of us, working at boring jobs for 30 years at a stretch, sensitive to heat and cold, afraid of cigarettes and guns...something has to change. And it will. - @Tuesday, March 1, 2011 2:11 AM

One of the most underrated movies ever! A great great film. - @Sunday, August 29, 2010 5:20 PM

YDDES
Yes, and the Tiger Moth that lands in the water early in the movie is probably destroyed too. I don't know if it can be the same plane they repaired and crashed again, but I doubt that. The plane that crashes in the water had modified, longer upper wings to look more like a Jenny, which the later plane hadn't. - @Tuesday, March 9, 2010 5:38 PM

YDDES
The plane that crashes at1:05 is a De Havilland Tiger Moth disguised to look like a Curtiss JN4 Jenny. The JN4:s were too rare to be destroyed for the movie. - @Monday, February 8, 2010 8:07 PM

The Bicycling Guitarist
This is and always has been one of my all-time favorite movies. Maybe you need to know something of aviation history or love flying and vintage airplanes to appreciate this? Check my Red Baron song on the "BicyclingGuitarist" channel here on YouTube. The lyrics and images are historically accurate, and the song rocks. I wrote it on a bicycle. - @Wednesday, January 6, 2010 11:19 AM

I just ran across it while looking for some other things on WWI. I saw the movie when I was in high school. We went as a class outing. I watched it for a bit of a nostalgic laugh. - @Monday, February 16, 2009 6:15 AM

gads I thought this movie stunk it up back in the 70's and I still think that. Although I think my cat Molotov likes it. he also likes donuts. - @Saturday, February 7, 2009 10:25 PM

I saw this movie when it first came out on the big screen, I now have 2 copies of it and burn them to DVD's just to make sure i don't wear out the tapes. I'm sure I'll always have it, Best Movie ever. LOL, as you can tell by name I guess I like it. - @Monday, September 22, 2008 6:51 PM

This movie features one of the most disturbing and in the same instance one of the most moving scenes ever in cinematic history. - @Thursday, July 3, 2008 12:25 AM

Thanks for posting! A great all-around film from 1975 that many have forgotten. This is one of those rare cases where it IS better to see this movie on the biggest possible screen. - @Sunday, February 17, 2008 4:14 AM
