In the action-comedy The Interview, Dave Skylark (James Franco) and his producer Aaron Rapoport (Seth Rogen) run the popular celebrity tabloid TV show "Skylark Tonight." When they discover that North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un is a fan of the show, they land an interview with him in an attempt to legitimize themselves as journalists. As Dave and Aaron prepare to travel to Pyongyang, their plans change when the CIA recruits them, perhaps the two least-qualified men imaginable, to assassinate Kim Jong-un.

Since everyone keeps writing about politics and not the actual movie, i feel that i should do so a bit. It was terrible. I really expected more from these guys, at least a laugh. BUT NO. Almost the entire story of the movie relies on James Francos character being stupid and self absorbed. Not even doing that right. I feel like the plot could have been so much better, but instead they made this dumb and really unoriginal CIA spy assassination plot. I watched Pineapple Express and This Is The End a few days beforehand, and i laughed my ass off. I did not laugh once during this movie... NOT ONCE. It was an predictable, unoriginal, over-hyped movie, that i would only be able to enjoy if i was stoned... I have seen two trailers of the movie The Interview. It is truly a shame on part of the North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un to miss a golden chance to earn free positive publicity. I don't subscribe to the view that the DPR retaliated against Sony PE for the making of the simple comedy movie The Interview to spite North Korea to enable earn Brownie points from the US government as Sony is already minting far more money as an entertainment channel without US financial intervention. One has to be a real nincompoop in Pyongyang to advise initiate playing war games with the Sony PE over release of their film The Interview banning its release. Like the story of this comedy thriller, the US government has gone hook, line and sinker like virtually launching a nuclear raid equivalent on the North Korean Virtual Networks with certain success but would be just an ephemeral and short lived affair. Even President Obama taking keen interest in the Internet outages in DPR does not improve either his dignity or integrity as world's most powerful leader. Also, it is by no way a tremendous achievement by the gnomes of the Silicon Valley. Many piggy backs are available. Internet possesses the capabilities to clone and sustain itself and would backfire in a different form and theme. It would have been a propaganda scoop of the hilarious but very effective kind by Kim government by not overreacting against the Sony product without spending a single penny. The Great Dictator might have then the face and guts to tell the Western world that he is more freedom oriented than the best of democracies. Ever. I love it. To be honest, I think they're not just doing it for laughs. They're trying to get a message across and making it understandable, so they made it a comedy. I'm sure we all know how serious it is though, because North Korea is still dominated by its leader. As for "falling into the terroist's threats", I think that's extremely stupid. Even the president, who said that, should be ashamed. What's wrong with protecting citizens? If it was released, and theaters got nuked, then we'd be blaming them for everything. I must say, though, those North Koreans are crazy about preserving their reputation. They just don't realize that we see through their ridiculous getup. Okay there's nothing wrong with making a movie in relation to North Korea or whatever. But the idea of assassinating Kim Jong-un? I know most people and South Koreans (such as myself) would support that but to actually make a movie about it 'just for a laugh' is a bit far. No one knows the actual ending of the movie yet, but no matter how they do it it'll still receive backlash from the public: If they actually succeed in killing him in the movie, they're asking to start a war with North Korea and cause even more worldwide tension. It's also a sad reality for Koreans because this is just a movie, it's a very rare event that he will be assassinated and he will continue to rule North Korea in his selfish ways. If they don't succeed in the movie, just the idea of assassination will cause tension and the whole effort into making the film would've been pointless. It will probably also portray the idea that the North Koreans yet again have more power in some way if they can outthink the CIA and manage to protect their leader in the film. I'm just sick of North Korea being so commercialised and being teased for being a Korean in general. It's a sad history and sad reality for us. - @Monday, December 22, 2014 10:13 AM
