This sweeping account of the life of Pu-Yi, the last emperor of China, follows the leader's tumultuous reign. After being captured by the Red Army as a war criminal in 1950, Pu-Yi recalls his childhood from prison. He remembers his lavish youth in the Forbidden City, where he was afforded every luxury but unfortunately sheltered from the outside world and complex political situation surrounding him. As revolution sweeps through China, the world Pu-Yi knew is dramatically upended.

English is the most spoken language on earth if you count it being known as a second language. Mandarin is the most widely spoken language on earth as a first language. - @Wednesday, July 24, 2013 2:07 AM

Actually the most spoken language is Chinese, then Spanish, then English... - @Wednesday, June 26, 2013 8:01 AM

China made several movies based on Russia history and in these Chinese movies all the actors/actress are all Russians and they all speak Russian language And these movies in China theater also use Chinese sub-title This is how a good movie should be made. - @Sunday, June 16, 2013 9:52 PM

You confuse native speakers with total speakers. - @Sunday, March 10, 2013 5:37 AM

That i could agree on. But you cannot deny that the English language on a worldwide/international level is bigger than Chinese. What do western countries for the most part teach the kids in school as secondary language? English. Every youth of this generation are so accustomed to the English language being on internet and all other social platforms evolves into better ability to speak/type in English and eventually turns fully into their second language. - @Friday, February 15, 2013 7:10 AM

Maybe he ment that Mandarin is the most spoken language in the world as a native language. - @Friday, February 15, 2013 6:26 AM

I think that person is talking about how a lot of movies try to show foreign country with actors speaking in poor English. Rather than having actors speaking poor broken English, just have them speak either their native tongue or Good English altogether. - @Thursday, January 31, 2013 7:24 AM

Thats probabily because you dont open yourself up to the Chinese people walking all around you. Mandarin like it or not dwarfs english as the most spoken language in the world with 14%, english a sub par 5% world population, geography doesnt come into account just population. Come to Reading UK yes UK and town centre, its like spot the english language my friend!!!! So youre reply was fail unfortunately. - @Monday, January 28, 2013 10:03 PM

Actually get your facts straight, Mandarin, which is part of Chinese and spoken in China is the language most spoken in the world, with spanish being second, English being 3rd....! - @Monday, January 28, 2013 9:58 PM

Mandarin is the most spoken language in the world because it is the most effective language, but only in China !! Actually English is the most WIDESPREAD language !! :) - @Friday, December 28, 2012 9:48 PM

That's a stupid thing to say. Just because China got a very big population doesn't mean Mandarin is the most spoken language in the world per say. Besides USA, England. Australia, Canada and all former British colonies, English language is spreading around the world as the number one language. That's just fact. Trust me. If you go for vacation in Europe, Middle East, Africa you're more likely to find someone speaking English than Chinese. - @Tuesday, December 25, 2012 4:43 PM

Mandarin is the most spoken first language in the world, but English has the most overall speakers - @Thursday, December 20, 2012 11:48 PM

I don't know how good your sources are but Puyi never really had any control over his early life. He was very much a victim of circumstance and given the proper opportunity would have made a great leader as you can see in his later life he's really done some great things. But sometimes you just have to take what you can get, and do the best you can under the circumstances. - @Tuesday, September 25, 2012 8:33 AM

Even Puyi himself can't speak Manchu. He was the 12th Manchu Emperor, and the 10th that ruled the entire China. In fact, during the reign of Manchu's 6th Emperor, there were already members of the imperial family who failed to understand spoken Manchu Language. It is simply hard to stick to one's own language for generations in a large country where the vast majority speak another language. - @Monday, September 24, 2012 7:03 AM

this trailer's kinda dumb. It makes Pu Yi out to be some kind of Chinese national hero or great leader. When in fact he was a fairly weak complicated individual. Interesting and to some degree good. But he wouldn't have made a good leader for a country as powerful or large as china. - @Friday, April 6, 2012 11:24 PM
