You just try to get today's candyass hollywood actor to play a scene with a fucking bear like that. Just try! - @Thursday, November 1, 2018 11:24 PM

Weird movie. Worth seeing as an interesting failure. I only had a vague inkling at the time, about Judge Roy Bean. But it was clear Paul Newman was not the actor to play him. Just as he was miscast in "Fat Man and Little Boy", as General Leslie Groves. Brian Dennehy in the TV movie was more like it. Though he played him straight, with no need for attempted gruffness. Paul can play crazy brave or reckless, but not crazy hard core. It's too abstract to him. Like the whole movie is. - @Friday, May 25, 2018 11:23 PM

A fine performance by Paul Newman as Judge Roy Bean. great cameo by the great director John Huston as Grizzly Adams. Also great appearances by Anthony Perkins, Ned Beatty, Roddy McDowall, and the vivacious Ava Gardner. Even the bear itself is good as well. One of Huston's finest films. - @Friday, February 16, 2018 6:25 PM

Stacy Keach's Bad Bob should have been in the movie longer, it's a hell of a performance. - @Saturday, January 21, 2017 4:58 AM

John Milius actually later said in an interview in the 80's that he believes Huston was the wrong director for the movie and that Paul Newman was wrong for the part. The interview can be seen in the documentary "Milius". - @Thursday, May 19, 2016 8:48 AM

I'd say Peckinpah would have been up to the task as well :) - @Friday, January 10, 2014 4:27 PM
