Honestly I like the new Gandalf in peter jacksons version but even though he could act strange, he was more human than anything. Which is not bad! However in the books he is a thousand year old angel sent from the Valar (or Gods) to help humanity rid the world of evil. I saw this film before I saw Peter Jackson's trilogy and I found it confusing to follow.
