Aging King George III of England is exhibiting signs of madness, a problem little understood in 1788. As the monarch alternates between bouts of confusion and near-violent outbursts of temper, his hapless doctors attempt the ineffectual cures of the day. Meanwhile, Queen Charlotte and Prime Minister William Pitt the Younger attempt to prevent the king's political enemies, led by the Prince of Wales, from usurping the throne.

He wasn't all powerful, he had to defer to parliament on most things and parliament was sovereign - @Sunday, July 29, 2018 11:18 PM

Dear Late 18th cent England: You call this guy 'mad'? He could complete sentences, had a rather complex vocabulary, and played the harpsichord reasonably well. Wait till you see the movie about our mad king. Respectfully, America 2017 - @Saturday, June 3, 2017 9:50 AM

Lovely movie. He was by all reports pretty much liked by ordinary people. Brits have never really worried all that much about their Royals being nutty. QED. - @Sunday, February 19, 2017 5:25 AM

So sad that poor George III has to be remembered as mad when he did so many great things in the early part of his reign such as championing the arts and abolition. One of my favorite monarchs. - @Sunday, August 7, 2016 2:56 AM

I read that King George III was born a preemie (for those who don't know, it's a term for a baby who is born early, very tiny), is it really true? - @Sunday, May 22, 2016 6:50 AM
