Drama Romance Western

7.4 / 10

Roslyn Taber, the type of woman who turns heads easily, recently came to Reno to get a quickie divorce, she having no idea what to do with her life after that. She cannot tolerate seeing animal suffering, let alone human suffering. Coinciding with getting the divorce, Roslyn meets friends Gay Langland and Guido, a divorced aging grizzled cowboy and a widowed mechanic respectively. Although Guido makes no bones about wanting to get to know Roslyn in the biblical sense and although he "saw her first", Roslyn begins a relationship with Gay, despite Roslyn's friend Izzy Steers, who originally came to Reno years ago to get her own divorce and never left, warning her about cowboys as being unreliable, and despite Roslyn initially not being interested in Gay "in that way". Gay has grown children who he rarely sees and wishes he was there for more than was the case. Gay and Roslyn move into the under construction farmhouse owned by Guido, which he was building for his wife before she died. ...

The best part for me in this film, is when the men talk about "not working for wages." "You gonna work for wages?" Meaning crappy pay. - @Tuesday, June 10, 2014 1:32 AM

Oiat, this is one of the best movies I have ever seen, maybe the best. It was the last film made by Clark Gable two weeks before he died. Gable said it was the best performance of his career. And Marilyn Monroe managed to dump her dumb blonde persona with her riveting performance. If you are a serious lover of film "The Misfits" is a must see. Go to IMDBdotcom or rottentomatoesdotcom to see reviews, This trailer doesn't do this movie justice. It is a very bad representation of the move. - @Thursday, September 5, 2013 12:56 AM

Un film puissant, des acteurs d'une beauté, d'une fragilité, d'une force incroyable. Un chef d’œuvre absolu. Maryline est une déesse en souffrance autant dans le film que dans sa vie perso. - @Tuesday, July 2, 2013 4:32 PM

But it's sad, these pictures you see of him are the last ones of him. He died two days after the film was finished. No wonder it wasn't a commercial success. - @Monday, January 7, 2013 12:11 AM

Its about Mustanging (they rounded up Wild Horses and sold them for Slaughter for Dog Food, etc. The 1971 Wild Horse and Burro Act is supposed to protect these horses but is a shamble. BLM is rounding up the wild horses with Helicoptors & holding them in pens and pastures. They are separating the babies from their mothers, Stallions from their mares and family bands & horse advocates r doing everything we can to stop them. If you want to know how 2 help stop this madness get ahold of me. - @Sunday, December 23, 2012 2:41 AM

He was a seriously handsome man - playing Rhett just sealed the deal. Not man-pretty like Monty Clift, though. Monty is my future baby daddy, as soon as time travel is perfected. - @Monday, August 13, 2012 4:09 PM

Sadly, within five years of the film's release (1961) Gable, Monroe, and Clift would all be dead. In fact, Gable died two weeks after completing the film. - @Tuesday, July 3, 2012 1:55 AM

What a great movie...Saw that extraordinary movie tonight. It's a kind of a tribute to Marilyn in itself. And it really works because it deals with her relationship with men. - @Wednesday, June 6, 2012 8:53 PM

in marilyn's case "conspiracy" is the truth if you study the evidence and keep an open mind. nothing like contempt prior to investigation. there is overwhelming evidence tghat she is murdered including her autopsy. the drug percentage found in her blood was so high it could only have reached that level from injection. she would have died long before it got that high thru any other means of entering her body. the truth is out there if you want it. - @Saturday, August 6, 2011 1:59 AM

To describe this movie as overwrought is being kind. However, it remains fascinating. MIller's screenplay is heavy and unfortunate, as much as the too soon, after production deaths of Monroe and Gable. But the performances are magnificent (especially, the stoned Monroe's). And, that horse breaking scene would have killed any Brett Butler. RIP (Marilyn, Clark, Monty and Thelma). The terrific Eli is still kicking. - @Friday, December 24, 2010 6:02 AM
