Watching a movie on YouTube is like listening to an album with sand jammed into your ears. Not exactly sex to the senses. That said, I'd give my left pinkie to own a proper release of The Poughkeepsie Tapes. It's almost legally, no doubt morally criminal how a studio can leave someone's cinematic labor of love on the shelves of limbo for so long. Nearly ten years, people! Imagine working your ass off on something for years, only to be told by some asshole in a suit that his company, the one who bought it from you, decided to scrap it. Arguably, the most frustrating thing about its non-release is that there's no rational explanation for it. It could have made the studio money. After all, it came out the same year Paranormal Activity did, which we all know ignited the very lucrative resurgence of "found footage". POV cinema and faux docs, although seemingly the whipping boy of the horror community, have a pretty huge audience of faithful, found footage defenders - I am one of them. So come on MGM, you heartless, soulless fecal specks in Satan's intestinal tract - at least give this film a fuckin' VOD release.
