A rich Texan, J.W. Grant, selects three men and invites them to his private train to offer them a contract: Rescue his wife who has been kidnapped by a Mexican revolutionary. The leader of the men, Rico, decides they would be a better team if Grant would hire one more man, an explosives expert. Grant quickly agrees and soon the four are off to complete the contract. However, while on the trail, they discover some interesting facts, like has Mrs. Grant 'really' been kidnapped?

Woody Strode is the archer. Burt Lancaster is the dynamite expert. Lee Marvin doesn't have a Gatling gun, it's a freaking machine gun! (looks like a water-cooled Vickers, to me, but what the hell do I know?). Landis doesn't even pronounce Jack Palance's name properly. Has he even fucking watched this movie? I absolutely LOVE Trailers From Hell, but I find Landis a little disingenuous. Smarmy even. - @Wednesday, September 12, 2018 7:02 PM

Lee Marvin as a VMI-alum. A bit like Ed Harris as a VMI-alum in National Treasure II. - @Tuesday, August 14, 2018 11:15 PM

If that film was 2018 there would be severe cries of whitewashing over Jack Palance being cast as a Mexican. - @Saturday, July 7, 2018 1:59 AM

The way Landis mixes up the area of expertise for each character causes one to wonder if he has actually watched this movie. On my list of favorite films of all time this one probably ranks somewhere in the 20s. I don't believe there are any Landis films on my list. Nope, none of his films have made my top 4000. - @Monday, May 21, 2018 12:53 PM

Everyone seems taken with Claudia Cardinale, but it was Marie Gomez as Chiquita that stole my heart in this picture. - @Thursday, May 3, 2018 9:18 AM

Wasn't this the film where Jack Palance really hit Burt Lancaster in a fight scene, and Burt came right back and hit Jack in the gut and made him puke? - @Tuesday, October 24, 2017 2:51 AM

" She's pretty delicious Burt ". You can say that again John ! - @Thursday, August 24, 2017 10:59 PM

Thanks for posting this John! It really has the look and feel of a spaghetti western, what a great era for films and this one has a perfect cast! HM, founder Highway Cinema and once produced a B action picture that featured Adam West. Film war stories? Oh yeah, I've got a few of them... - @Saturday, June 10, 2017 6:37 AM

The back and forth banter between Lancaster and Marvin is some of the best ever . Over a half dozen lines you will remember a lifetime . - @Saturday, March 25, 2017 8:44 PM

A strong powerful western from the 1960s. Lee Marvin, Burt Lancaster, Claudia Cardinale, Ralph Bellamy, and Jack palance. A mix of the Magnificent Seven meets Once Upon A Time In The West. - @Tuesday, January 24, 2017 3:25 AM

But,very sadly she hasn't aged very well,for i have seen a recent photo of her. - @Thursday, November 24, 2016 11:50 PM

The reason this movie works so well is that Claudia Cardinale is so damn hot that you have no trouble believing men would kill to have her. - @Tuesday, November 22, 2016 5:03 AM

Claudia Cardinale is so stunning in this movie that hurts - @Tuesday, October 4, 2016 8:55 PM

The actor Vic Morrow was carrying two children (Myca Dinh and Renee Shin-Yi Chen) across a lake and a helicopter crashed right on top of them; the propeller sliced them in half. Landis was responsible because he cut corners in terms of preparation, neglected all sorts of safety regulations, plus, the children never should have been on that set (at night, in the water, helicopter flying over, using pyrotechnics). Those two children were victims of violating the child labor laws, in terms of work hours, being paid off the payroll, and so forth. But the kids were Chinese, so Landis did not give a goddamn, lying to the parents, the casting agent, and on-set safety regulators about the scene. - @Wednesday, August 17, 2016 11:35 PM
