Cody, a 9-year-old boy from Mugwomp Flats responds to a distress call about a trapped giant Golden Eagle called Marahute. Freeing her, he gains a close friendship with the bird. However, Cody is soon abducted by the murderous poacher, Percival McLeach, who is after that bird which is of a highly endangered species and therefore an extremely profitable quarry. In a panic, a mouse Cody freed from one of McLeach's traps sends a desperate call for help to the Rescue Aid Society in New York City who assigns their top agents, Miss Bianca and Bernard, to the task. With transportation provided by the goofy albatross, Wilbur, the agents arrive in Australia and link up with the RAS' local field operative, Jake the Kangaroo Rat. Together, the trio must race against time to find Cody, stop McLeach, and save Marahute.

one of those rare occasions where the sequel is better than the original IMO - @Saturday, March 30, 2013 6:41 AM

My bad, I did some major research and you are correct about Disney movies but thankfully for The Rescuers Down Under, the Blu-ray version displays the correct Aspect Ratio - @Sunday, September 30, 2012 10:30 PM

Not true. For all the Disney animated films released in the 60s and 70s, and also The Fox and the Hound, the films were animated in fullscreen and then cropped to widescreen for theaters that didn't have the capacity to project fullscreen films. The old VHS of The Rescuers is in fullscreen, and doing a side by side comparison with the DVD releases as well as this blu-ray release shows that the fullscreen VHS is the only version of this film that has the full, correct aspect ratio. - @Sunday, September 30, 2012 1:10 AM

No, not in this case. The Rescuers was animated in 1.33:1 or 1.37:1 and then cropped to 1.75:1 and released to theatres. You lose top and bottom info from the image which is perfectly usable - @Sunday, September 30, 2012 12:44 AM

it isn't top-and-bottom-cropped fake widescreen, all movies have been created in the same widescreen format for decades - @Saturday, September 29, 2012 11:47 PM

The Rescuers is one of the most underrated Disney movies in the history of Disney. The Rescuers is also one of the few Disney animated movies that is not a musical. - @Friday, August 17, 2012 3:35 AM

Plans for a second "The Rescuers" sequel were cancelled with the death of Eva Gabor, the voice of Bianca, in 1996. - @Sunday, August 12, 2012 5:17 AM

In continuation of my first reply... The Rescuers Down Under only bombed the boxoffice due to bad timing. I'm a big fan of the movie and to tell the truth I consider it one of the best animated features ever made. - @Wednesday, July 25, 2012 10:12 PM

The problem for this movie can be summed up in one word: "timing" When Disney started to make Down Under everthing about Austarlia was in due to the Crocodile Dundee movie. Disney wanted to make this movie look much better than the earlier movies so they used computers for the colouring and the finishing touch. This however, prolonged the process of making the movie and when it was released in November 1990 the "Australian Wave" was over and people didn't want another movie about Australia. - @Wednesday, July 25, 2012 10:10 PM

Nicholas Segura
yeah, but it was released in between "Little Mermaid" and "Beauty and the Beast", making it part of the Disney Renaissance. wouldn't that have made it just as marketable? - @Monday, July 2, 2012 4:24 AM

Lnds500
cause it bombed at the box office and it is considered one of their less marketable films. they have many more which could really benefit from 3D + bring in some money back. imagine that the film was released only once on DVD, with awful picture and sound quality. we should be happy we're getting a pristine copy of the movie actually. - @Sunday, July 1, 2012 9:41 PM

why isn't Disney considering "The Rescuers Down Under" for a 3D theatrical or 3D Blu-ray release? - @Sunday, July 1, 2012 9:08 PM

Lnds500
no, not yet. I also prefer the old AR which was used in the VHS era. But I expect this to be something close to 1.75:1, that was the theatrical ratio of this film and many others. it was composed in 1.33:1 (fullscreen) with a 1.75:1 projection in mind. - @Thursday, June 7, 2012 9:00 AM

peterfinnfilms
Any word on the aspect ratio yet? I hope they release The Rescuers in fullscreen this time, the way it's supposed to be seen, rather than the top-and-bottom-cropped fake widescreen. - @Thursday, June 7, 2012 3:51 AM

" Rescuers 2 " would have of the being the first Disney animated classic converted in 3D, because it really costs with its incredible flight scenes realized in CAPS technology. - @Saturday, June 2, 2012 1:16 PM

Well I care, SuperJNG18! Back in the day, green preview screens at the start of movie trailers use to say "The following preview has been approved for all audiences by the Motion Picture Association of America, Inc." until around probably say like mid-2009 when the message was changed into "The following preview has been approved for appropriate audiences by the Motion Picture Association of America, Inc.". - @Friday, June 1, 2012 12:38 AM

The preview to The Rescuers/The Rescuers Down Under 2-Movie Collection Blu-ray should have said "The following preview has been approved for appropriate audiences by the Motion Picture Association of America, Inc." instead of "The following preview has been approved for all audiences by the Motion Picture Association of America, Inc."! - @Thursday, May 31, 2012 1:59 PM
