the first time this thing played on national broadcast tv was ~1969 and it was a BIG event. since the mid 70's video's been on- demand; before that you got what the networks decided to show. people now can see anything they want any time they want. it's especially great for people who want to study cinema. they have access to the entire catalog of films. - @Wednesday, July 25, 2018 5:17 AM

Speaking of kids being scared of the Wicked Witch, she reminded me very much of my 4th grade teacher who was about the same age as her and just as mean. She used to slam our heads on the desk after shaking us like rag dolls if we did anything unacceptable, like smile or laugh. So this movie was very real for many kids and all too close to real life for some of us. And don't forget the theme and most famous line of the movie "There's no place like home" which was perfect to be heard at home which is where the movie truly became a classic, at home on TV. - @Tuesday, December 26, 2017 12:25 AM

Mr. Badham, you are one of my all time favorite directors and writers on moviemaking! Great that you are back on TFH. And with such a movie as this one too. Movie critics are really not to be trusted in any way. There are very few art critics worth their salt, and even fever in a generation who reviews movies. There is only a couple per century, people like Burke, Ruskin or McLuhan. Merry Christmas everyone one! - @Monday, December 25, 2017 2:14 PM

None of these stories about how difficult it was to realize this movie are new to me. I've been hearing them for years, and I imagine so have many others. Many have become Hollywood legend. Good idea to have three trailers from different eras! - @Sunday, December 24, 2017 10:08 PM
