It's the last day on earth, twelve hours before a cataclysmic event will end life as we know it. James makes his way across a lawless and chaotic city to the party to end all parties. Along the way, he somewhat reluctantly saves the life of a little girl named Rose who is desperately searching for her father. Stuck with the unexpected burden of responsibility, James is forced to come to terms with what really matters in life as the final hours tick away.

Awesome movie. I've watched every end-of-the-world and post-apocalypse movie I can get my hands on. There are two other movies with a similar plot: Last Night; and Seeking A Friend for The End of The World. These Final Hours is easily the best of the three, though surprise, surprise all three are actually quite good. I think that Seeking a Friend is the lesser of the three. These Final Hours is the only one of them to have the guts to show the absolute insanity of those knowing that doom is inescapable and soon. The party that James and Rose go to has alcohol and drug use to the extreme; people openly having sex all over the place; and a Russian Roulette game where even those who blow their brains out are cheered on and applauded. Extreme, yes. But think about it. The losers of that brutal game have sacrificed what? Maybe four or five hours of life. And at the very least have guaranteed that they themselves will not be around to experience the global conflagration that very soon will consume all. One more distinction: of the three only These Final Hours takes the step of showing that doom when it arrives. Not to reveal too much, but the last couple of minutes of the movie are as horrifying as anything in any end-of-world movie. Though we can all be glad that the selfish and not-especially brave protagonist has finally redeemed himself and become a good man, that wall of fire will make you think that he might have been smarter to stick to the original plan and gotten so intoxicated that he was unconscious when the end came. I know which I'd choose were I in a similar situation. And it wouldn't be the choice of being lucid and aware to feel being roasted alive. - @Tuesday, December 26, 2017 8:01 AM
