Touko Laaksonen, a decorated officer, returns home after a harrowing and heroic experience serving his country in World War II, but life in Finland during peacetime proves equally distressing. He finds peace-time Helsinki rampant with persecution of the homosexual men around him, even being pressured to marry women and have children. Touko finds refuge in his liberating art, specializing in homoerotic drawings of muscular men, free of inhibitions. His work - made famous by his signature 'Tom of Finland' - became the emblem of a generation of men and fanned the flames of a gay revolution.

Looks good, hope it is a good movie like the Imitation Game about another gay hero Alan Turing. This seems to be about Tom's whole life, what things were like in the closeted 50's and how that affected all his relationships, family, work, sex, and love. Younger gay people have no idea now what things used to be like. But I think anyone expecting a film for gay leathermen only is not being realistic, although hopefully someday there will be a more pop-culture film about Tom's time in Los Angeles and how friggin awesome it was. This clearly is abut Tom's whole life, made from a Finnish viewpoint where he is considered a National Hero, they put Tom images on their postage stamps! I think the government is helping fund it, which is why this is the first film getting made and will hopefully appeal to and enlighten a mainstream audience. I love Tom's work and the lifestyle he helped create based on his philosophy that sex is a source of joy and camaraderie free of shame and negative stereotypes. I'll be happy if this film shows us that and humanizes him as even more than a gay man who raised pornography to the level of the great art his work now is seen with in museums around the world. - @Monday, September 19, 2016 7:31 PM
