Gus is a baseball scout. The team he works for thinks he should retire. He asks them to let him do one more scouting job to prove himself. His friend, Pete, asks Gus's estranged daughter, Mickey, if she could go with him to make sure he's OK as his eyes are failing. The doctor tells Gus he should get his eyes treated but he insists on doing his scouting assignment, which takes him to North Carolina. Mickey decides to put her work on hold to go with him and she wants him to explain why he pushed her away. Whilst there he runs into Johnny, a scout from another team who was a promising player Gus once scouted. Johnny and Mickey take an interest in each other.

I am a baseball nut and I've seen every movie that has been made about the sport and I think this is my favorite of them all, even better than Moneyball. It goes kind of deep into the game in an interesting way and tells a great story. It get's a little touchy-feely a few times. And I understand the statement it makes about racism, I don't like it but I understand it. Its the view of an old white guy, which is what Eastwd and the writers are, so you can't fault them too much for that. It tries. But the end has a great twist with "peanut-boy." Trivia says that Eastwd vowed that he retired from acting after Gran Torino and he made good on that promise until he got involved with this script. I guess he's a great scout of good stories just like his character is a great baseball-scout. I like that too. This was made in 2012 and old Clint's 86 yrs. old so this may be his last acting job ever. Hope not. I will miss him. He is a true American treasure. And when he finds the right role he always jacks it out of the park. The script is under litigation for claims of plagiarism since the creation is one of those patchworks where it underwent work by many writers. I guess the script has that sort of patchwork-feel to it. Maybe that's why it lost money. - @Monday, January 2, 2017 5:07 AM
