It is the year 1250 B.C. during the late Bronze age. Two emerging nations begin to clash after Paris, the Trojan prince, convinces Helen, Queen of Sparta, to leave her husband, Menelaus, and sail with him back to Troy. After Menelaus finds out that his wife was taken by the Trojans, he asks his brother Agamemnon to help him get her back. Agamemnon sees this as an opportunity for power. So they set off with 1,000 ships holding 50,000 Greeks to Troy. With the help of Achilles, the Greeks are able to fight the never before defeated Trojans. But they come to a stop by Hector, Prince of Troy. The whole movie shows their battle struggles and the foreshadowing of fate in this remake by Wolfgang Petersen of Homer's "The Iliad."

If Paul W.S. Anderson was already making a Pompeii movie, I had a cool idea for a fictionalized account of the destruction of Pompeii that was on a more riveting and epic like Troy, Gladiator, Braveheart, Apocalypto, and LOTR: Return of the King.There were two protagonists, one was a lone, rugged drifter who arrives in Pompeii and gets arrested for killing four guards and gets turned into a slave and Gladiator and one was the prince and general of the army of Pompeii. The armour was completely wrong to start with. On screen you see hoplite armour from 500BC not Mycenean and trojan armour from 1200BC. It's a shame because the Iliad describes EXACTLY what Akhilleus' and Hektor's helmet, shield and sword looked like, down to the details. - @Monday, August 6, 2012 3:34 PM

The worst depiction of history ever. The Iliad describes Hektor as diving barefoot into fighting warriors on horseback. "An invincible headlong terror. Maniacal". When I look at Eric bana in Troy all I see is a metrosexual Hollywood prettyboy performing theater stage combat level III. And where is the monolithic Rage of Akhilleus? Although I'm only a martial artist I "know" I can take on this prettyboy portrayal of Akhilleus and Hektor simultaneously, and I'm a nobody.
