Ruth Gordon is just amazing. Hysterical, infuriating, and howlingly funny. She has no shame whatever, and goes about things as if it was simply normal..which for her character, it was. This movie should be much better known - it's a kind of secret thrill. I have a couple of fave scenes but I won't spoil it for those of you who didn't see it. Please DO!!! - @Sunday, December 28, 2014 10:05 PM

I think Reiner is brilliant and in response to the Dutch actress, I think he just made fun of her dutchy name? His humor! - @Monday, March 24, 2014 6:58 PM

@westpalmscott THAT was the version that I first saw about 20 years ago; I was in love with this movie...up until the ending, which made me NEVER want to watch this again! And I can't think about this movie without thinking about that ending, Sad, because the cast (many of whom were unknowns who later became famous) was great, the dialogue was superb, and Carl Reiner is one of my heros. But that ending, man...damn. - @Sunday, May 8, 2011 7:48 PM

when these types of movies along with the likes of blazing saddles, putney swope, joe, etal,... the dialogue that was used was unheard of before this. the scenes with muthafucka were beyond belief at that time. this was also back in the day when you could stay in a theater for as many shows as you wanted to. we did, back then. we'd meet at the local bar, and go to the movie theater and stay for a coupla shows, sometimes twice a week. they set the tone for the types of dialogue you hear now - @Thursday, April 21, 2011 2:31 PM

This trailer and the comments below do not do the film justice. It is MUCH MUCH BETTER than anyone would guess from seeing the trailer or reading the comments. I overwhelmingly recommend it for anyone who enjoys wit and clever comedy. Note that it is directed by Carl Reiner who, in his own past experience, has been attached to such comments repeatedly going all the way back to his Sid Ceaser writing days. - @Thursday, September 9, 2010 3:42 AM
