Chinatown, New York City. There has long been an unofficial agreement that the NYPD will leave the traditionally run Chinese triad alone to manage the crime issue in the neighborhood, the triad who is the face of organized crime of Chinatown. The triad also has an unofficial agreement with the Italian mafia, still seen as the major player in organized crime in the city, to be cooperative in a win-win situation in their illegal activities. However, the Chinese youth gangs are disregarding these unofficial agreements, being another violent player in the crime scene in Chinatown, they who take a stand by killing Jackie Wong, the head of the triad. To deal with the matter, the NYPD reassign Captain Stanley White from Brooklyn to Chinatown. Stanley, of Polish heritage, is not averse to slinging slurs toward his adversaries, most of those of a racial nature. As far as the failure of the movie, people here seem to be over looking a critical piece. The woman who plays the reporter is terrible. It would be insulting to even call her an actress. This is one of the few very underestimated movies. A very great Rourke as Stanley White ( who really excist, and was on the set ). Hello Worley, my name is Eric Ryder! I really enjoyed the movie "Year of the Dragon". I though Mickey Rourke pulled off this role quite flawlessly. His flawed ways were quite convincing and he was very effective as a not so likable character. This was Rourke at his finest. John Lone was also convincing as the kingpin of the evil Triad and a formidable adversary to Rourke. It was a shame that this movie was boycotted by the PC audience at the time, but what ethnic denomination was never slandered by Hollywood? The only flaw was the performance by Ariane; she was truly awful. But her bad performance didn't lower my spirits. Come to my channel. I have a review on the movie "Year of the Dragon".
