Not a movie for the Transformers crowd. Not a movie for idiots that complain about slow scenes or too deep a plot. Just remember, most of these kids grew up taking pills for anxiety, add, and depression. A different generation that grew up with a distorted perception of reality and education levels. A generation that went to school where no grade is lower than 50%. A mediocre generation attempting to be movie critics. That being said: Thankfully, someone up there in movie making still cares enough to make movies for the cerebral crowd. A movie with layers, superb acting, and great cinematography. This was such an amazing movie. As a five-time attempt survivor the portrayal of suicidal ideation spoke to me on such a personal level. Joaquin’s character literally rescues trafficked girls for a living and still wants to die, because the good you can do rarely ever outweighs the bad when you’re in the position he’s in. The other thing is the look of exhaustion he has throughout the film was incredibly realistic. I certainly found value in not only the portrayal of such a difficult subject but also the film in general (including the direction, cinematography, and Joaquin’s performance). I've seen anime filler-episodes that had more "DEPTH" and better convincing characters than what this film tries to desperately force down your throat, and without any of the pretentiousness or cheap shock-value scenes.
