AN HONEST LIAR is a feature documentary about the world-famous magician, escape artist, and world-renowned enemy of deception, James 'The Amazing' Randi. The film brings to life Randi's intricate investigations that publicly exposed psychics, faith healers, and con-artists with quasi-religious fervor. A master deceiver who came out of the closet at the age of 81, Randi created fictional characters, fake psychics, and even turned his partner of 25 years, the artist Jose Alvarez, into a sham guru named Carlos. But when a shocking revelation in Randi's personal life is discovered, it isn't clear whether Randi is still the deceiver - or the deceived.

This film isn't playing anywhere around me, unfortunately. Any idea when it might be available on DVD/blu-ray or streaming? I've been a big admirer of Mr. Randi's work since I was a teenager and later saw him lecture at Princeton back in 2001. Randi, when challenged about his wish to see SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST being allowed to ‘draconically prove itself’ on drug users, responded in way that sounded a lot like SOCIAL DARWINISM: “The survival of the fittest, yes,” Randi said. “The strong survive… I think people with mental aberrations who have family histories of inherited diseases and such, that something should be done seriously to educate them to prevent them from procreating. I think they should be gathered together in a suitable place and have it demonstrated for them what their procreation would mean for the human race. It would be very harmful.” That´s the kind of dangerous thinking that people who support Eugenics employ. Especially those who do damage to people. Randi claims to love and live for the truth, which is good, as well -- but the truth also applies to him. Randi and Dawkins clearly have this arrogant superiority complex going on, the kind of Eugenics mentality, claiming to be rational and scientific, when in fact their own biases heavily taint what they do and say. Notice how this film does not touch on these truthful aspects of Randi. The film’s director, Justin Weinstein, says his documentary is not strictly a work of journalism. Rather, like Randi, he’s a storyteller. “Sometimes there are greater truths you can reach when you don’t adhere to the facts.” Truly rational and scientific thinkers do not adopt fundamentalist and arrogant modes of being. They say, "The evidence so far seems to support this _____," not: "That´s absolute rubbish from idiots with mental aberrations who are so stupid it would be good if they die and exit the human gene pool." Doesn´t make Randi or Weinstein out to be rational scientific thinkers at all, but propagandists for particular (often dangerous) viewpoints. Hydrick from then on would tell people who shipped things to him not to use styrofoam because he hated it so much. Everything sent to him was broken in transit. I can't wait. I've had the pleasure of seeing Randi speak twice in very small venues. The first time, he described his work debunking Jaques Benveniste's homeopathy "research" for Nature. Absolutely fascinating. Both times, he opened his talk with two magic tricks (different ones each time), one of which he explained and one of which he didn't.
