I saw the film as a kid( 9 or 10). I liked it at the time. Like all sequels it was trying to cash in or out, on the series. The studio's in my mind have not changed much. But, the Ape series each film had less and less budgets. But, still like this film for the memories of going to the pictures on a Saturday afternoon. - @Wednesday, November 21, 2018 4:18 AM

Actually it was the best one when you think of it as you see it for it's little or not known peace time of which it opens up and finishes with an ape lawgiver telling this story to an equal society of humans & apes and of which I brought to the attention of Malibu Graphics and they were just as annoyed by me as they were glad to have had me there for them. They messed up the quote from Battle on the cover of Planet of the apes:Blood of the apes#1 and then when they wrote back writing down a sarcastic comment of which went like this Boy you sure put allot of thought in that letter on the time lives of the ape universe glad to know that blood of the apes really gets you to use the brain cells hope it didn't distract you too much from the stories themselves and you're still with us then I wrote them back to show that I was and so it was because of me that Planet of the apes :the forbidden zone came into publication. - @Monday, June 4, 2018 4:34 AM

This is NOT a bad movie. I enjoy it from time to time. All Planet of The Apes from 1968 to 1974 is good. - @Wednesday, February 22, 2017 6:10 PM

One of my fave movies is "The Hill" starring Sean Connery. You don't need a big budget but more like a really well written script and great acting. - @Monday, September 5, 2016 7:05 PM

Personally, I was NOT impressed with "Battle for the Planet of the Apes" because of a substandard plot and a limited budget. I agreed at first that it was going to be a movie about some kind of new destiny for both the apes and humans. In other words, the movie was going to be somewhat family-friendly like the first three "Apes" films. But after what happened with "Conquest of the Planet of the Apes" where that movie had just about having scared some of the audiences because of the extreme violence, the filmmakers had decided to go back to the family-friendly approach with "Battle." But unfortunately, "Battle" was a disappointment. If the movie would have been remade, perhaps with a much better screenplay and with a bigger budget, maybe the remake would have turned out better. Then again, who knows? - @Friday, August 26, 2016 12:55 AM

Do not like this movie. Very bad screenplay, worse ape makeups, not good enough budget. Honestly, the forgiveness message is ruined by the fact that possibly, the planet would have turned out fine if Ceasar had stayed away from that damn Forbidden City. - @Thursday, August 6, 2015 11:59 PM

I laughed out loud when Landis introduced himself as Marie Dressler! Film buffs know her as the star of the very first feature length comedy film "Tillie's Punctured Romance" (1914), made by Mack Sennett and also starring a young Charles Chaplin. I love that Landis does these weird false intros of himself. This one was a particularly bizarre non sequitur that just tickled me for no good reason. :) - @Thursday, June 25, 2015 4:51 AM

I loved the Planet of the Apes saga (and still do) but was so disappointed with this. It plays out like an episode from the TV show. A war between the Apes and the Human factions sounded so good but all we got was about 20 men in a bus, a motorbike and a couple of jeeps up against about 20 guys in badly fitting ape suits!!! Roddy McDowall and Claude Akins made this barely tolerable but it was a sad end to the Apes story that should have been a spectacular, showing the rise of the apes and how they subjugated mankind. I had no idea though that there is an uncut version of this movie!! Is it available in the UK? - @Monday, January 19, 2015 6:42 PM

I agree with Chris Smith, it just isn't very bad. At the very least, Severn Darden makes it entertaining, but a lot of other things too. - @Tuesday, October 14, 2014 2:36 PM

I wonder how J. Lee Thompson felt during his latter day 80's Cannon Films -Bronson period. I think I saw a relative-maybe his son-listed on the credits so maybe he did them to get his son established? And of course the money. - @Monday, August 4, 2014 7:02 AM

Hey John Landis...  Why do you trash movies like some half-assed movie critic?  Oh, because that's the only job you can get.  Want to know about another bad movie?  It's called "Twilight Zone" and the producer was responsible for three people getting killed on the set. - @Wednesday, July 16, 2014 8:25 PM

I heard that originally Roddy McDowell was looking forward to doing this picture because originally it was going to be significantly darker and would have the Ceasar character becoming a power hungry tyrant, but when the budget was cut everybody just decided to phone it in, and they made Ceasar a total pussy. - @Tuesday, July 8, 2014 3:59 AM

I get very offended when people put down this film, for it is without a doubt the very finest of all the PLANET OF THE APES films that were shot in somebody's backyard. - @Friday, April 11, 2014 4:37 PM
