Brent is an American astronaut, part of a team sent to locate missing fellow American astronaut, George Taylor. Following Taylor's known flight trajectory, the search and rescue team crash lands on an unknown planet much like Earth in the year 3955, with Brent being the only survivor of the team. What Brent initially does not know, much like Taylor didn't initially know when he landed here before Brent, is that he has landed back on Earth in the future, in the vicinity of what was New York City. Brent finds evidence that Taylor has been on the planet. In Brent's search for Taylor, he finds that the planet is run by a barbaric race of English speaking apes, whose mission is in part to annihilate the human race. Brent eventually locates some of those humans, who communicate telepathically and who live underground to prevent detection by the apes. These humans, who are in their own way as barbaric as the apes, want in turn to protect their species. Brent has to figure out a way to save ...

This one is filled with a lot of Hollywood's anti Christian agenda, equating God with war and destruction and science with compassion. Also depict upside down crosses in the the Under Humans Bomb temple. All in all, the only good film in this entire series is the first one. The sequels, television spin-off series and remakes are all vastly inferior-- just vehicles for Holly-wood/cabal propaganda. - @Friday, January 11, 2019 12:54 AM

Okay so has anyone had this thought yet.. Why did the apes feel the need to conquer the forbidden city, besides their hatred of man, why didn't they instead go away from the forbidden city. Huh, I can't be the only one considering this, go away from the bad to the good theory. Who knows what lies away from the irradiated ruins, gee maybe what they have always wanted, a good place to live free of humans. I think it would make an interesting book. - @Thursday, May 26, 2016 2:37 AM

Interestingly, the ending of this movie led to some kind of soft reboot to the series in the following movie (Escape from the Planet of the Apes). This must be the very first film franchise that does that. - @Wednesday, May 11, 2016 8:04 AM

I really loved this film until the last hour tbh. Not sure about everyone but I though the last hour was just a mess with the super humans and the ending just confused me. Otherwise I thought the rest was as good as the first. - @Wednesday, January 13, 2016 4:00 PM

We could not wait to find out, what was going to happen to "Taylor", after his discovery at the end of the original. The premise was good & original, the "Under-Humans", having developed their mental abilities. Still the two races wanted to annihilate each other. If you do not mind, I will "Add To" my page.                                                                                            :)  - @Friday, July 18, 2014 10:52 PM

A thing that bothers me is that the mutants said their only defense was illusion. But they could make Brent and Taylor fight. Why couldn't they make the apes kill each other? - @Sunday, July 13, 2014 2:57 AM

Great sequel to the original film. Although it is the second movie in the series, it is actually the final chapter in the planet of the apes timeline. So if you want to see the whole series, see this movie last. The year of this movie is sometimes listed as 1969 and sometimes as 1970. The movie existed in it's final form and received its copyright in 1969 but was not released in theaters until the spring of 1970. The DVD case lists the correct copyright of 1969.  - @Sunday, June 22, 2014 5:58 PM
