Harry Palmer has left the British Secret Service and become a private detective. One of his first assignments is to deliver an apparently innocent thermos flask to an old friend in Helsinki, Palmer is suspicious of the flask contents and begins to doubt the motives of his friend and those of his boss a Texan billionaire.

It seems a real shame that we've been given this mini talk on the film by someone who doesn't seem to like or "get" this film. I can imagine it possibly was a painful experience for Ken Russell but I can see his signature all the way through it. Also there's no mention of great performancess from Karl Malden, Francoise Dorleac and Ed Begley. I would also mention it has an excellent score and brilliant and witty opening title sequence. This is my favourite of the Harry Palmer films and I feel is generally underrated and unndervalued but I know others who really rate and love it. - @Tuesday, November 7, 2017 3:29 AM

Underrated and somewhat misunderstood film, I think, and a tiny bit prophetic. You didn't hire Ken Russell to direct your film if you wanted something conventional and didn't want a highly stylized, idiosyncratic film, which is exactly what they got. Even in today's tech-savvy and tech-dominated world, computers are seldom depicted accurately in films, so this aspect is certainly not limited to the 60's. And Bernard "Sleepyhead" Rose should drink several cups of coffee and throw some cold water in his face and wake the f*** up before doing another one of these segments. - @Sunday, March 12, 2017 10:11 PM
