4.5 / 10

Farm boy, Jake, lives for girls, guns and adrenalin; his younger brother, Greg, loves poetry. The tensions and bitter rivalry between the two finally erupt into bloody, life-changing violence. With the dark clouds of war looming over England's green and pleasant land, it is Greg who unexpectedly signs up for front line battle in France. Against a backdrop of chaos and uncertainty, Greg discovers a world of uncompromising brutality. His journey through war-torn France exposes the very best and very worst of human nature along with the realisation that, no matter how far you run, the past will always find a way of catching up with you.

That's one sad depressing movie. I wouldn't recommend it. Life's to short for that much sorrow. There's not one second of happiness in the entire movie. - @Thursday, August 9, 2018 5:38 AM

Bloody boring. What has happened to British war films, lately, like this pile of crap, British war films end up being love stories. When I watch a war film that is just what i want, a war film not a love story. - @Friday, March 3, 2017 8:16 PM

Aber nicht im ernst?
Ultra fail movie.... - @Friday, November 11, 2016 10:06 PM

This is a movie I didn't like but it still had me asking "what happens next" throughout the film. It's done well in a time when 90% of the audience can predict 99% of modern films. Just expect one of the darkest films imaginable. I'm talking dark, emotional characters. Every fucked up situation you can imagine. Surprises. Twists and turns, etc. Honestly, I'd watch Saving Private Ryan just to make myself feel better. - @Sunday, November 22, 2015 6:25 AM

That  was  a  good  story  with  a  good  plot  and a   very  touchy  subject, but...once  again, it  shows  on  the  other  hand, how  much  "off"  will  an  otherwise  good  film  can  go, when  other  things  such  as  the  wardrobe  department  are  taken  lightly  and  in  an  off  hand  manner! Even  though  the  German  troops  at  the  first  battle  are  correct (reenactment  unit  perhaps?) and  with  the  correct  vehicles, weapons, gear  and  uniforms, some  of  their  British counterparts however, are  armed  with  No  4  MkI Lee  Enfield  rifles! To  those  who  are  experts  never  the  less, these  guns  are  known to  be  made  AFTER  1944  and  not  in  '39  to  '40! Additionally, the  Germans  portrayed  inside  the  church  scene,  are  lousy! The  officer  wears  a  crasher  cap, smaller  than  his  own  head (thus  awkwardly  looking  on  him!), and  the  other  two  soldiers  are  wearing  old  W.W.I  German  M16  helmets (ONLY  SECONDARY  and  auxiliary  troops  in  the  rear  lines, wore  these  and NOT  front  line  units!) while  one  of  them  bears  both  Wehrmacht (German  infantry  that  is)  as  well  as  SS  insignia  on  him....something  TOTALLY  IRREGULAR! The  producer  owed  to  do  a  better  job  on  these  details  especially  since  he  HAD  military  advisors  in  the  movie  according  to  the  end  titles (two  guys  named  as  Craig  Appleton  and  Tim  Richardson  I  think)! - @Monday, June 8, 2015 5:53 PM
