In 1987, Captain William "Buck" Rogers pilots his space shuttle Ranger 3 on a mission but a meteor storm freezes him into an orbit that returns him to Earth - 500 years later. In 2491, his shuttle is found and captured by the Draconian flagship, under the command of Princess Ardala and her second-in-command Kane. Reviving him, they return him to Earth after secretly planting a homing beacon aboard his shuttle to track a path through Earth's defense barrier. Buck is under arrest and learns that Earth has been rebuilt over the centuries in his absence following a nuclear holocaust. Buck Rogers must adjust to the 25th century, and convince the Terrans that the Draconians are secretly planning to conquer Earth.

for late 70's tv standards it was good ..but it was NO Star Wars..Buck Rogers, BSG, ..those shows just filled the gap until Empire Strikes Back came out in 80 ..by the time Jedi came out in 83 Buck Rogers was already passe really...especially with ALIENS , "V" and Star Trek Next Gen coming down the line ....but still BR was pretty good for those days on tv ...especially the first seasons..the second season ..not as much ...but still better miles better then say Galactica 1980 - @Friday, July 22, 2016 10:15 PM

Happy 35Th Birthday Buck as I was also was watching the Pilot EPIDODE on T.V. on September 20th 1979 but with new Scenes and the proper Title Card AWAKING I like the Televised Version more than the Theatrical Version because you get to see the more shots of the Courthouse Building in 2491 and Dr Huer asking the Computer Council for more time to check Bucks story while he was aboard The Draconia and him cliaming that they are armed - @Sunday, January 3, 2016 2:45 AM

This NBC promo was an advertisement for the "Awakening" episode aka the Pilot episode of BUCK ROGERS for it's debut on Thursday Sept 20, 1979! BUCK ROGERS was also my favorite TV show back then too until it hit its 2nd Season in the Winter of 1981 when the ratings took a nose-dive and resulted in being axed in the Summer of 1981! - @Tuesday, March 26, 2013 7:14 PM
