Movies back then were so much better. Made you feel like you were at the movies, it felt like going to to movies. The movies today are all digital bullshit. They not even using film anymore. Sad... - @Tuesday, August 20, 2013 11:02 PM

I love this movie. It's a good movie to address the soldiers who were both physically and mentally scared from this crazy war. Both Jane Fonda and Jon Voight gave such wonderful performances. I never cared for Bruce Dern but he gave a very good performance as a soldier who didn't understand what the war was about til he got over there and saw it was chaos. Great direction too by Hal Ashby. - @Saturday, August 18, 2012 8:26 PM

One of my favorite films of all time...shifts from mood to mood and shows us how simple, complicated and ephemeral love can be. The shots of the hospital staff working with the vets are so effective; shares a chapter of American history where so much can be unpacked. (Not to mention a wonderful oral sex scene.) - @Saturday, May 12, 2012 1:54 AM

swastikausa:You poor ignorant, hate-filled fool. This is past. There's no evidence for your ridiculous rantings.....I feel sorry for you.Voight is a super conservative now.Fonda is a Christian, elegant, elequent, and has asked for forgiveness for her unwise comments in those Viet Nam clips--and has received it,from all thinking folk. I don't know where you come "from," but if NO ONE is ever forgiven there, for things said in haste or error? You come from HELL. Just want to vent.ok. mscentrum04 - @Saturday, January 7, 2012 5:23 AM

Always remember Bruce Dern exploding when he finds out what's been going on between Voight and Fonda. It was the rudest thing i'd ever heard upto that point. - @Tuesday, December 27, 2011 6:33 PM

I love/loved this film! Loved the music, too. The sad thing is that Voight somehow went off the rails.....changed his worldview,is Extreme Conservative now--and let his daughter slip away from him, forever.Nothing should sever the parental bond, except murder or some unspeakabe offense. But Fonda &Voight, in this beautiful film continue to amaze and instruct. Ron Kovic was pleased-he was the template for the Voight character. Ms.Centrum 04 - @Thursday, August 11, 2011 8:20 AM

@donjsnyder Just so you know, the latest wikileaks on confidential information reveal that nuclear chemical labs and burrows housing warheads were found in Iraq during the stages of the war. So you were wrong, the Iraq war was not a lie. - @Friday, November 5, 2010 10:48 AM

@finecanbrothers I have enjoyed this film also, thats why I was looking for it; the music was great also, I remember "Out of time", by the Stones, playing at the begining with bruce Dern running along a white line on a street. - @Saturday, May 29, 2010 2:03 PM

The message is still a good one. Stop the war, praise our veterans, try and topple bad governments by peaceful means. Still I get what you mean. Jane fonda is still despised for what she did to those POWs - @Sunday, May 23, 2010 8:30 PM

I watched this movie for the first time in a long time last night. I think this movie is as provocative as it was the day it was released. I agree that's it's neither pro-war nor anti-war. It just tells the absolute truth. I wish that there were some people who could open their minds, and see this movie for what it is - and just put their negative opinions about Jane Fonda out of their minds. - @Sunday, May 2, 2010 10:51 PM

I dont think the film is just about the wrongness of our part in that war or even of wars in general, I think it was about the emotional and physical effects that it has on the people who were (at the time) forced to fight in it. That it came out at a time when American youth no longer had that threat hanging over them (and thus preferred Star Wars and videogames) is another irony. I dont think the film is strictly pro or anti war, its just the simple tragic truth, in all it's complexity. - @Saturday, August 29, 2009 1:33 PM

It also has probably THE greatest 60s soundtrack of all time, just a phenomenal use of the era's best songs used in an unforgettable way. "Coming Home" is an absolute masterpiece. - @Saturday, August 29, 2009 1:23 PM

You missed the whole point grunt. Jon Voight saw the LIE that resided at the heart of the Vietnam War. A similar lie in Iraq. If one must kill thousands of innocent people in order to WIN a war, then perhaps that war is not worth winning. - @Thursday, January 15, 2009 10:32 PM

This film suffers from a flawed screenplay. The writing is bad and gets worse as the movie progresses. Still, Jon Voight is magnificent. I could never understand why Fonda won best actress for this. Overall, this movie doesn't stand the test of time, but Voight's work seems genuine and heartfelt. Thank you, Jon. And as for you, Jane: Get a life. You're old and boring now. We're over you. - @Sunday, July 13, 2008 11:34 AM

I watch this movie with mixed emotions. My husband was a Marine in Chu Lai and Da Nang during the Tet Offensive that finally swayed opinion on that war. I can only watch when my husband isn't home. The most moving antiwar song ever is Tim Buckley's Once I Was. Peace - @Wednesday, June 18, 2008 10:24 PM

it really captured the Vietnam War on the domestic from beautifully and without bias. And, it shows a current thread of thought towards our troops too, by showing the lack of health care they so deserve for serving our country. - @Sunday, June 8, 2008 6:57 AM

One of my favorite movies ever. Jane Fonda, Bruce Dern, and John Voight are just plain excellent. Oscars all around. And it really shows that Jane Fonda was FOR the troops just not the war with this movie. - @Sunday, June 8, 2008 2:05 AM
