Four best friends, with four different personalities, have issues of their own. Deidre is fascinated by her sexuality and has many boyfriend problems. Madge is unhappily overweight and has overprotective parents. Annie boozes and does drugs, and runs away from her abusive father, a policeman. Jeanie has to take care of them and is fighting with her divorced mother. The only way to loosen up, and forget all the bad things happening in their lives, is to party and have fun. Jeanie is ready to grow up and wants to stop acting like a child. Annie is the worst of them all and Jeanie is worried about her the most. She risks her neck more than once trying to keep Annie clean and free from trouble. However, Annie's unstable behavior and flare ups keeps everyone on edge.

Amazing. A movie about rebellious behavior without a single sex or nude scene! I didn't think it was possible. - @Saturday, June 11, 2016 8:07 PM

LOVE when Jeanie (Jodie Foster) tells Mr. Simmonds about Annie (Cherie) "She doesn't RUNAWAY anymore!"- I was like "excellent inside joke". - @Thursday, October 10, 2013 4:24 AM

This was PRE-Reagan, pre-Madonna, Pre-MTV so this is really an extension of the 70s, not quite the 80s. 80s started to suck about 1982-82. You are right though. the film is very authentic. - @Sunday, August 25, 2013 4:01 AM

I saw this in 1980 when I was 15. The movie is pretty accurate for that time period. From what I can remember. :) - @Saturday, January 14, 2012 10:39 PM

Mmmh what a good movie. I think every girl should see this, at my age. and I'm fifteen. It teaches some beautiful lessons of life for every girl. It really helped me get through a lot... really. What a wonderful movie! - @Saturday, September 17, 2011 12:39 AM

@Matlike1 this is how i imagine the eighties when people talk about it. For the 80s themed dance at my school, everyone dressed in the neon leggings and baggy sweatshirts... i wore a leather jacket and went as Joan freaking Jett =) - @Saturday, April 30, 2011 8:16 PM

@faffaflunkie dumbass, the late 70s lifestyle lasted well through the early 80s. You are the one mathmatically challenged, 1980 doesnt rep the 70s at all. - @Thursday, January 13, 2011 10:17 PM

@Matlike1 This was really did capture the time very well. Sad how young people nowadays, have lame people to look to for inspiration for the real truth about life. And this one did. Good movie from start to end. A real slice of American life of early 80's life. I thank God, I was there. - @Wednesday, October 20, 2010 9:09 PM

The best thing of this movie at the time of its release was Donna Summer's song "On the Radio". Apart from that, the film went largely ignored by audiences. - @Tuesday, August 10, 2010 5:39 PM

@Matlike1 I used to not like the eighties because of that disco and cheesy colours things. Now I 've discovered that they were pretty nice... - @Monday, July 12, 2010 2:46 PM

@faffaflunkie so much for not spoiling the movie! give away the fate of a character? - @Wednesday, July 7, 2010 3:12 AM

@Matlike1 Just trying for some historical accuracy. I can just see Nancy Reagan watching this movie with horror. - @Friday, June 25, 2010 7:52 PM

faffaflunkie
@Matlike1 Hey genius, by the 1980's we already had Ronald Reagan and "just say no". The persons and events depicted in the film were from the 1970's. - @Friday, June 25, 2010 7:32 PM

faffaflunkie
@Matlike1 You are among the "mathematically challenged". How could a movie made in 1980 be about the "early '80s". - @Friday, June 25, 2010 7:16 PM

faffaflunkie
@LilBpresents1 I really don't want to spoil the movie for those who haven't seen it yet. Her (Cherie Currie's) death at the hands of what could only be described as "L.A. Archtypes" is a shocker. Suffice it to say it is a Jodie Foster movie and if you can find it at a discount (perhaps at "99¢ only" or "Fry's") it is worthwhile. - @Friday, June 25, 2010 6:43 PM

faffaflunkie
@Matlike1 No, The movie was MADE (or more accurately released) in 1980. - @Friday, June 25, 2010 6:36 PM
