Action Animation Comedy Family Fantasy War

5.0 / 10

Garfield, the fat, lazy, lasagna lover, has everything a cat could want. But when Jon, in an effort to impress the Liz - the vet and an old high-school crush - adopts a dog named Odie and brings him home, Garfield gets the one thing he doesn't want. Competition. One night Odie runs away and gets dog-napped after Garfield locks him outside. Garfield, in an out of character move, goes to search for and rescue Odie with the help of a variety of animal friends along the way.

I fucking hate this movie! Because of the toilet humour and pop culture references! And a forgettable plot, bad and cringeworthy humour (I would find more laughs in a Happy Madison movie), a desperate attempt to be hip and cool with the kids, piss-poor lack of loyalty to the original comic strips and the cartoon, ugly CGI of Garfield and very annoying characters. - @Monday, April 30, 2018 5:01 PM

It's just a desperate attempt to be cool and hip with the kids. It's just a corporate sell-out, just like what the Nostalgia Critic said in his Scooby Doo movie review. - @Monday, April 30, 2018 10:57 AM

Muray read that it was written by Joel Cohen and confused this garbage shitting writer with Joel Coen. It had to be painfuk to go through voicing this shit after you've signed the contract and realized your mistake! - @Sunday, August 16, 2015 4:59 PM

I really like this film. Sure, it's not mind-blowing or heart-breaking or the best film ever, but it's cute and hilarious. I always watch it when I'm sick with flu or fever, it makes me feel better :] Plus the original VHS cover and tape are orange. How cool is that, ha ha. - @Thursday, February 5, 2015 10:43 AM

Sir Roland in this film kinda looks, sounds, AND acts like a certain cat from a certain little kids show. Can anyone guess which cat I'm talking about? BTW, I loved this movie. - @Monday, January 26, 2015 7:08 PM

Happy 10th Anniversary to Garfield The Movie. It seems like it just yesterday I was an endearing 9 year-old little kid that read the Garfield comic strips online and watched the animated series on T.V. who couldn't wait to see America's favorite fat cat make his big live-action debut on the big screen. Thanks to a great and heartwarming screenplay written by Toy Story's Joel Cohen and Alec Sokolow, perfectly fun performances led by Bill Murray, Breckin Meyer and Jennifer Love Hewitt and some faithful directing by Pete Hewitt Garfield The Movie is a delightful and funny adaptation. 5/5 stars. - @Wednesday, June 11, 2014 2:55 PM

Lucky for you, you have Bill Murray for the english dub. Unfortunately for us, in France, Garfield is voiced by a fucking lazy guy who didn't made any efforts to change his voice. And he's even not an actor, but a guy obsessed by sex and not even funny. by sex - @Sunday, May 11, 2014 12:32 PM

You're right Toy Story isn't animal related but Garfield still copied Toy Story in many ways, such as Odie being adopted and Garfield being jealous (Woody was jealous of Buzz in Toy Story), and Garfield and Odie getting lost and have to escape from the villain (Buzz and Woody also did that in Toy Story). Yes, The Lion King is a different story but there was one part that was directly copied from it, the scene where Happy Chapman is attacked by animals and is only seen in a shadow. - @Tuesday, August 27, 2013 10:33 PM

You're right about the acting and animation, but the plot is completely unoriginal and plain lazy, not only is it too dissimilar to the source material it constantly copies and pastes elements from other animal related family movies, such as Beethoven, Toy Story, Homeward Bound 2, Toy Story 2 and The Lion King. - @Monday, June 10, 2013 8:16 AM

At the time of it's release I was a huge fan of the Garfield comic strip and was overjoyed when I found out a movie had been made. While watching it in the theatre, during the first 30 minutes it was quite interesting to see the the Garfield universe in live action and the Garfield character in CGI instead of cartoon, but after all that wore off what was left was a very simplistic, childish movie with a very forgettable plot. A very disappointing experience I must say, 1/10. - @Monday, May 13, 2013 4:15 AM
