When American reporter Steve Martin investigates a series of mysterious disasters off the coast of Japan, he comes face to face with an ancient creature so powerful and so terrifying, it can reduce Tokyo to a smoldering graveyard. Nuclear weapon testing resurrected this relic from the Jurassic age, and now it's rampaging across Japan. At night, Godzilla wades through Tokyo leaving death and destruction in his wake, disappearing into Tokyo Bay when his rage subsides. Coventional weapons are useless against him; but renowned scientist Dr. Serizawa has discovered a weapon that could destroy all life in the bay -- including Godzilla. But which disaster is worse, Godzilla's fury, or the death of Tokyo Bay?

It would be awesome if in the Pacific Rim sequel, Godzilla suddenly shows up and saves the Jaegers from the Alien Kaiju. - @Sunday, April 20, 2014 6:20 PM

Just so we are all in agreement, (because I have met a few... "Stubborn" people who do not agree with me.) I hope that you all realise that ANY amount of jaegars, 10, 40, 300. Would all perish to Godzilla for he is literally invincible weaponwise, the foes he has faced out class any jaegar or kaiju that exists or could exist. And none of the jaegars have weapons that could even phase him. His atomic breath would destroy them to their core. That goes for the kaiju as well. King of the monsters is all I have to say. - @Thursday, February 6, 2014 5:18 AM

I never heard about that. I DID hear about him greatly disliking "Jack the Giant Killer" for creating a giant very similar to his iconic cyclops. - @Sunday, September 22, 2013 3:51 AM

The older generation of Hollywood filmmakers had hard feelings toward Godzilla, particularily Harryhausen. - @Thursday, September 5, 2013 3:30 AM

Films that really interest me, in particular genre films, tend to have some peculiarity in the production. You say Garbage Pail Kids is a lazy and poorly executed film, and in the conventional sense it probably isn't well executed, but it's certainly not as lazy as Pacific Rim and certainly a lot more interesting. GPK has a unique tone, surreal and impressive effects, and a loose, punkish execution. Pacific Rim is a very formal, ordinary movie with lazy and obvious execution. - @Monday, August 12, 2013 2:49 AM

wait wait wait. How is Pacific Rim a "homage" to anime of the late 70s/early 80s. That was the era when Giant Robot animes begin to change hell Mobile Suit Gundam the first Real Robot series came out in 1979. Now the Late 60s to the mid 70s. And don't tell me the Robots in Pacific Rim are Real Robots because because there far too big, they work on your mental state, there fighting aliens not a war zone, the science isn't a focus point & the design are more getter robo then gundam. - @Thursday, August 8, 2013 11:51 PM

Lazy??? Have you seen the visuals? It's anything but lazy! Del Toro painstakingly made every effort to make sure this would be a fitting homage to the late-70s/early-80s anime flicks. You can criticize the acting or the way it was directed; but, you don't have the right to say it was lazy work. - @Thursday, August 8, 2013 9:38 AM

The 1998 one got me into the Godzilla franchise so that's why I support the movie. Sure it looks like shit now (Except for the design) but I still have respect for it. - @Tuesday, July 23, 2013 2:46 PM

like every other movie out now which are remakes/reboots and comic/books adaptions non them are original, pacific rim was more a love letter then your typical action big star actor movie.pacifc rim was fun not oscar worthy just pure entertainment from start to finish. - @Saturday, July 20, 2013 7:06 PM

Allow me to offer a counterpoint. In the video, Del Toro says he loves monsters and monster movies. Obviously, considering Hellboy, Pan's Labyrinth, and most of his films. Pacific Rim was Del Toro's love letter to monster films and their directors. Sometimes, we just want to have fun at the cinema, and Pacific Rim did just that. It's a monster film, not some deep Oscar winner. Did you walk into Pacific Rim expecting riveting dialogue and a heartwarming story? No, you went in to see monsters. - @Saturday, July 20, 2013 12:22 AM

I'm glad that Del Toro has respect and admiration for the King of Monsters! After all, Godzilla and his giant monster battles against opponents like King Ghidorah, Mecha-Godzilla, and Destroyah set the foundation for epic films like PACIFIC RIM. - @Saturday, July 13, 2013 7:05 PM
