6.7 / 10

A brutal and realistic war film focuses on the lives of a squad of 14 U.S. Army soldiers of B Company, 3rd Battalion, 187th Infanty Regiment, 101st Airborne Division during the brutal 10 day (May 11-20, 1969) battle for Hill 937 in the A Shau Valley of Vietnam as they try again and again to take the fortified hill held by the North Vietnamese, and the faults and casualties they take every time in which the battle was later dubbed "Hamburger Hill" because enemy fire was so fierce that the fusillade of bullets turned assaulting troops into shreded hamburger meat.

I like this movie, but Johnson was an annoying douche of a character. Always fuckin blaming anyone who's white for being white and thinking they must have had something to do with one of his brothers getting killed, even though it's his own paranoid delusions. Fucking hate him so much that I wish I was there so I could beat the ever living shit out of him. Also, I just love how it's wrong for a white man to be racist, but when a black guy does it, it's fine. XD Lol Anyways, good movie. - @Wednesday, July 25, 2018 12:15 PM

This movie represents the 101st Airborne Division on what they went thru on this bitch of a hill. 600 men went up and less than a 3rd came down. But they killed over a 1,000 enemy troops. - @Sunday, February 21, 2016 12:02 PM

A friend of my dad's was at Hamburger Hill during those ten hellish days in May of '69. Not sure whether he was in the 101st or the 173rd but he was a sniper and said of his entire unit, only twelve men were left unhurt when they got to the top. - @Sunday, February 7, 2016 9:41 AM

I wish this movie was better received. I thought it was as good as Platoon and FMJ, all three movies representing various aspects of the war. HH focused on a squad fighting on hill as well as life on a base near a village. Platoon solely focused on fighting deep deep in the jungle and the humanity that can be lost. FMJ: the militarization of the war.  THIS movie was JUST as good, and showcased soldiers in a better light. Black soldiers weren't portrayed as cowards and drug addicts like in Platoon. The Lt was a little more competent.  Perfect anit-war film, without being anti-soldier. - @Friday, March 27, 2015 5:11 AM

Really dumb you thought hippies wanted the war so they protested it. Get off the conservative crack pipe. The ones that didn't want the war was because they were smart enough to know it was for nothing. We lost they won and it's a sad fukn story in American history. Let's not repeat it. - @Sunday, September 21, 2014 9:32 PM

72 KIA-372 wounded was the "official" report. You think they tell the masses back home what's going on, think again. They wanted all the commie p.o.s. hippies and college students to believe that American troops were massacring the communist vc over there, and not the one's being massacred by the commie gukes. The latter being more true than the former... Which is the real reason the commies in America protested the war, they didn't want our country to fight Communism, they wanted the country to embrace it! We should have dealt with the commies on our own soil first before proceeding on to Vietnam!!! - @Sunday, May 11, 2014 8:27 PM

Bounties, raised by common subscription in amounts running anywhere $50 to $1,000, had been widely reported put on the heads of leaders whom the privates and Sp4s wanted to rub out. Shortly after the costly assault on Hamburger Hill in mid-1969,the GI underground newspaper in Vietnam, "G.I. Says", publicly offered a $10,000 bounty on Lt. Col. Weldon Honeycutt, the officer who ordered(and led) the attack. Despite several attempts, however, Honeycutt managed to live out his tour and return US. - @Friday, April 27, 2012 4:51 PM
