Action Horror Sci-Fi

4.5 / 10

A group of grad students have booked passage on the crabbing boat Harbinger to study the effects of global warming on a pod of Belugas in the Bering Sea. When the ship's crew dredges up a recently thawed piece of old Soviet space wreckage, things get downright deadly. It seems that the Russians experimented with tardigrades, tiny resilient animals able to withstand the extremes of space radiation. The creatures survived, but not without mutation. Now the crew is exposed to aggressively mutating organisms. And after being locked in ice for 3 decades, the creatures aren't about to give up the warmth of human companionship.

Just Me
This is the best god damn movie I've seen in a LONG time. - @Monday, September 24, 2018 7:28 PM

Didn’t know what this was. Heard the name for years but always avoided it. Some reason I pictured another war movie. Anyway I’m gonna save this for Halloween night and treat myself. I’m gonna actually hype it up in my head and really appreciate it. - @Sunday, September 2, 2018 3:27 AM

My and my gf found this movie quite tacky... You are likely to only enjoy this if you are drunk, and like laughing at dumb stuff. It isn't Sharknado levels of bad, but it is pretty darn bad still. - @Saturday, August 4, 2018 10:06 AM

League of Draveeen
Horrible acting from most of the actors...Only the old man and the russian woman made it bearable when it comes to lines and acting. Besides that combining their work with CGI fucked it up pretty bad tbh. All in all this film for me was nothing more than a waste of time with bad scripts . Its not my job to convince you not to watch it , but believe me my words ''I warned you bro" will be in your mind at the end of this film - @Sunday, July 22, 2018 5:47 AM

This was a bad movie, less than B Movie quality. It didn't understand what made The Thing great. It's not just the practical effects, it's what you don't know and the atmosphere you build. Don't show everything then tell later, it must be VERY VERY subtle. - @Friday, April 27, 2018 7:08 PM

For a movie that was made just to show off practical effects it couldn't even get that right. The effects work is very uneven and the bad lighting and camera work made it very difficult to even see the effects work. The 2011 The Thing was a much better made movie. - @Sunday, April 8, 2018 2:20 PM

there's a big difference to paying homage to a film and flat out copying its story. This is copying it. - @Tuesday, February 13, 2018 5:52 PM

The pilot version of The THing 2011 looked way better. People just don't want to try the old stuff anymore. "Ah just use CGI. That's way more realistic than guys in rubber suits and dummies." #giveusTheThingPilotVersion - @Wednesday, September 27, 2017 7:45 AM

Sooo... Another The Thing movie... is it as good as the 1982 version, or is it as controversial as the 2011 version or is it "Sharktopus vs Whalewolf" level? - @Saturday, July 29, 2017 10:14 PM

Using "practical effects" doesn't justify them not having tried to write a decent screenplay. - @Tuesday, June 6, 2017 5:52 PM

Neat little film. Yeah, not exactly original and the acting (except Lance Henriksens') isnt great either, but the atmosphere is right and the practical effects are cool. If you know the backstory of this film, it really is an admirable effort. - @Thursday, May 4, 2017 9:06 PM

what i liked about the original the thing, that anybody can be infected and turn into a unique monster in couple of second outta nowhere, in that film most of the time the thing was just a regular lame ass tentacle monster - @Monday, April 10, 2017 12:00 AM

i would love to see it because of the effects but, to be honest, the acting looks laughable - @Monday, February 27, 2017 10:08 PM

Just saw this was on Netflix. Sounds cool. Glad I came here to watch the trailer first. Looking forward to the film now. I'm a huge fan of Who Goes There and the films that it inspired (notably, both versions of The Thing) and also of the Alien series. Definitely looks like my kind of film and story. Looking forward to it. - @Monday, February 20, 2017 4:25 AM

hurry a movie with no CGI can't wait brilliant well I assume so because The thing and Aliens were created with no CGI and done with animatronics. - @Sunday, January 22, 2017 1:30 AM

...I've always had a soft spot for similar films: computer graphics only as support, and real special effects, independent productions, and Mr. Henriksen ... ... Modern movies are almost all in CGI and lose the taste of the past; there is a saying: "If the hall is full, the movie sucks.", in other words, often assessed by two film stars on a scale of 10, turn out to be the best, because the "people" often shit tastes born from the fashions of the moment ... ... For a horror-movie buff freak like me, such a film is a real gem, especially if you see two masterpieces as Alien and The Thing (the original Carpenter, the prequel of 2011 disappointed me, too much CGI!), but also Deep Rising or Virus, two other films undervalued ... ... Come on, go on like this, and thank you for these little pearls, do not fall into the ridiculous as with those ciofeche Asylum or the abominations of Uwe Boll ... ...As soon as I find the DVD, I buy it right away even if I had to find my own language... - @Monday, October 24, 2016 5:02 AM

Even though this is basically The Thing: Disney Cruise Edition, I thought it was a *lot* better than other current sci-fi horror movies, if not in story than just in how they actually used practical effects for once. It actually looked real instead of that blatant terrible cgi that a lot of movie companies have a boner for nowadays. - @Sunday, October 9, 2016 5:22 PM

I haven't seen this movie, but being a child of the 80's I prefer practical FX over CGI when it comes to things like this. The Thing, Aliens 2, the American werewolf in london transformation, Original Total Recall, these are what it's all about. There should always be a place for PFX in hollywood........ALWAYS. - @Wednesday, April 6, 2016 12:26 AM
