Helen has it all: friends, an attentive second husband, a cheerful teen daughter, musical talent, and a university teaching job. Then, something's amiss: is her husband cheating, does she have a fatal disease, does her past haunt her? There's a quick hospitalization, a disclosure, a bond with one of her students, Mathilde, and a dark chasm that seems to be opening in front of her: can Helen do anything about the problem she won't discuss, or will it swallow her?

0:30 I can relate to this behaviour, I've tried to push away people who love me and yes, depression is extremely debilitating : ( - @Wednesday, February 28, 2018 1:17 PM

Gmanka, you don't have to have something horrible happen to you to become depressed. Most times it's because there is a chemical imbalance in the brain cells... It's sad that these days people need a "reason" to be depressed. Somebody with great parents, friends and experiences their whole life can become severely depressed while someone who came from a broken home and had a horrible childhood could grow up to become happy. It all just depends on the person, not what they've gone through. - @Saturday, August 30, 2014 9:30 AM

@ToolFan68 A few years ago I would insist on the same exact thing. I was so ignorant just like you. Well do you think that those people without food etc. are not depressed? I guarantee you that 90% of them are! You just dont know depression my friend just like me a few years ago. But they say people like this with strong beliefs tend to have depression at least once in their lifetime. I wish you luck. - @Monday, January 13, 2014 5:17 PM

Thank you so much. This piece evoked some deep emotions. I'd like to finish it with piano if there is no more than 45 seconds (which is enough for itself). Take care. - @Saturday, August 24, 2013 8:08 PM

Depression is a horrible thing to suffer from. I have since I was a teen. Not something that can just be cured. It takes living life day to day small steps. - @Tuesday, July 16, 2013 5:56 AM

Because of ignorant morons like you, depression still has a terrible stigma related to it which leads many people to disregard their condition and therefore not seeking for help. Don't talk about what you don't understand. - @Saturday, June 1, 2013 7:25 PM

Hey guys I'm going through a hard time,and I wanted to watch this movie,but I don't know if I should.I just need to know if this movie is the one that actually gives you hope,and makes you stronger,or the one that, I don't know.. it kindas makes you think that your life is gonna be always like this. (I know dat dis maybe a stpid comment,but I just needed to know) And,remembering that I'm not asking what's the end of the movie.. I think just if the whole storyline helps you, or something. Thanks! - @Friday, December 21, 2012 1:06 AM

I had obviously no idea, because I didn't know anything about this illness. In the meantime I asked a person who lives with depression, and he told a lot of thing. He told that too this illness has no reason, or the reason is a tiny/futile thing what an another person doesn't count. I whish you all the best!! - @Monday, March 26, 2012 12:19 PM

@ToolFan: If I wanted attention then I would be telling everyone and I am even afraid to go see a psychiatrist because of the "Stigma" associated with mental illness. Thanks for being a dick about it though. - @Friday, March 9, 2012 5:13 AM

@ToolFan: You are gonna cause someone to commit suicide talking like that. Do you know how shitty they already feel? You are making them feel worse - @Friday, March 9, 2012 5:06 AM

Blutenhande
@Tool Fan: You are a moron, why would anyone choose to be depressed? You every heard of mental illness, treat it like it's someone who has no legs and is in a wheelchair. BECAUSE THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT IT IS! - @Friday, March 9, 2012 5:03 AM

Blutenhande
BS to the person who said that. Depression is a chemical imbalance in the brain. You think anyone would choose this if they had a choice? - @Friday, March 9, 2012 2:48 AM

To the person who said Depression needs a reason obviously has no idea what clinical depression is. I suffer from it and some days there are no reasons... - @Friday, March 9, 2012 2:46 AM

@5daneel In some cases, depression doesn't need a trigger. There can be a biological cause. - @Thursday, February 16, 2012 1:16 PM

I just saw the film, but I don't know, I don't undertand Helen's reason(s)... why has she depression? what was happened with her earlier in her life, in her first marriage? Why had she then and why has she now? or the depression has no reason? Mathilda had one "good" reason, that was her mother who left her alone, commited suicide. But what happened with Helen? Or it (the depression) is just there one day? (so sorry for the bad english!) - @Sunday, January 8, 2012 10:31 PM

Depression has no scientific evidence behind it. Even the 'chemical changes' - the apparent cause of depression - are unproven. Depression is a BEHAVIOUR. As Thomas Szasz says: no behaviour nor misbehaviour can be classed as a disease. - @Tuesday, August 16, 2011 7:06 PM

@sbenn75 Why... you don't think it would work... or you just don't want to believe it would work? I have seen too many women that claim depression when what they really have is a self centered naval-gazing fascination with having everyone around them feel sorry for them at all times. Are there truly clinically depressed people? Yep. But are there a whole lot more people that are doing it for attention and to feel sorry for themselves? Yep. - @Monday, April 25, 2011 5:44 PM

@Satori ...the same damn thing. - @Monday, April 25, 2011 5:41 PM

Want to get over depression ladies? Get your ass over to the shittiest part of Africa or India & live with (and just like) the people who dig a hole every day to take a shit because there is no plumbing, people that have no food, that have lost their children to disease, people who've never seen a doctor, people that can't read cause there are no schools. Stay for 2 years - long enough to forget your old life, and I GUARANTEE you that 90% of you will never again face depression. You will CHERISH - @Wednesday, April 6, 2011 11:01 PM
