I love how the film portrays the decision between being content in your comfort zone or being happy outside of it. About to give up on his dream he heads back to his small home town that has moved on with life without him. With life slipping on by he discovers the girl he loved getting ready to marry another. He must choose between his calling and the girl he loves. This is a film about choices in life and living in the moment. From the cast to the writing this film succeeds on so many different levels. Some of my favorite moments were between Dustin and his kid step-brother. It added an interesting layer to it of him teaching his kid brother to be like him and at the same time not be like him. If you’re a cinematography nerd, you need to check this movie out. Seriously. I had never heard of who Kieran Murphy (the cinematographer) was before Brampton’s Own but after watching it I will definitely be remembering his name. This film is beautiful and genuinely stylish at times, which I didn’t expect at all. Brampton’s Own is a great addition to the romantic comedy genre, full of heart-warming moments and heartbreak. Directed, Michael Doneger, puts his own twist on the classic story of a returning to one’s hometown and reuniting with an old flame. The story shows us how it feels to return home to find that everything you used to love has moved on without you and now it’s time to catch up.
