Tim and John fell in love while teenagers at their all-boys high school. John was captain of the football team, Tim an aspiring actor playing a minor part in Romeo and Juliet. Their romance endured for 15 years to laugh in the face of everything life threw at it - the separations, the discrimination, the temptations, the jealousies and the losses - until the only problem that love can't solve tried to destroy them.

Based on Timothy Conigrave's memoir "Holding the man" the book was released a year after he died. He was a beautiful young man. It made reading the book and even sadder experience knowing he didn't live to see it released. The movie was good but the book stays with you for a very long time after you've read it. It would be an honour to be buds with them in 'real life' and their characters in the movie, they're amazing fellas, they had me intrigued from the start of the movie. Admittedly, I was a little put off by Tim's hair-do at first (but then it was the 70's..lol) but these guys, I'm certain, did a superb job of representing the real men that they were cast to play and should be proud. Bloody good acting by the ever fabulous Anthony LaPaglia and the always perfect Guy Pearce.
