The film is based on A.G. Sulzberger's 2010 New York Times article "For Kodachrome Fans, Road Ends at Photo Lab in Kansas" about a father and son who take a road trip to Kansas in order to develop photographs at Kodak's last Kodachrome lab before it closes its doors forever.

Thanks to everyone involved in this project. The only Family photo’s that make it through time were slides with infinite resolution and the ability to be scared and shared. They were the USB stick of it’s time and so much more. No one prints anymore and if you scan one of these slides the limits are up to you. How could this medium be completly discarded, just to gamble on the digital market in which Kodac failed. The 110 B&W gave me incredable photos and it is now gone for some time now. Without it half my life would not have been captured on film and later scanned. I traveled so much and covered so many types of people, jobs and lifestyles that my little 110 photo’s only survive in negatives, thank god I have the bulk developed once I heard they were breaking anouther medium that was not broken. Even contact lenses are being cut back for the higher + perscriptions because of volume sales? If they allready have the machine and the template, why force someone into glasses and poor vision. Just shows how much these companies care about their reputation and are now getting lost in the crowded world of business. Keeping one or two labs open and so the customer must wait or pay more was never even attempted. I wrote this review on a youtube morning show interview with the fine actor Ed Harris so excuse the copy and paste. Ed Harris oozes emotion and depth. I've admired him since I was a child, and was moved to tears in this movie. Big ugly crying tears. Come to think of it, most of his characters have brought out that emotion in me. Back to Kodachrome. The first scene he was in, I was struck by how authenticly raw his physical transformation into Ben, a sick man who led a life of outdoor travel and photography, really was. Every deep wrinkle carved into Mr. Harris's face, and his leather like tanned skin told a story of this character. His sunken, often angry eyes looked haggard, yet beautiful. In one scene you hate him, and the next you sympathize for him. He honestly looks nothing like he does in this interview. And that is just his physical transformation. His chemistry with Jason Sudekis is superb. By the way, I love Jason too. I had no idea what the movie was about when I saw the trailer, but it had these two men in it so you can't go wrong. - @Saturday, April 28, 2018 12:19 PM
