A group of young boys are stranded alone on an island. Left to fend for themselves, they must take on the responsibilities of adults, even if they are not ready to do so. Inevitably, two factions form: one group (lead by Ralph) want to build shelters and collect food, whereas Jack's group would rather have fun and HUNT; illustrating the difference between civilization and savagery.

Best restoration that Criterion has to offer, it looks like it is from the 80s, but the films from the 60s. Best restoration. Looks like a 80s black and white film like Eraserhead, since Eraserhead is available from The Criterion Collection. NOTE: I'm getting City Lights Blu-ray from Criterion this christmas. Never own a Criterion blu ray, but i am. :) - @Thursday, December 4, 2014 11:19 PM

The great Spanish director Luis Bunuel was interested at one time in making a film of Lord of the Flies but sadly never got the chance. It would have been interesting to see what he would have done to this great book. It touched on themes he enjoyed exploring such as the breakdown of civilized behaviour when people are displaced from their normal environments like in The Exterminating Angel which is sort of adult version of Lord of the Flies. I haven't seen either version of the book yet. - @Wednesday, July 17, 2013 1:10 AM

I think it's sad that people's opinions are being removed by downvotes. - @Saturday, July 13, 2013 4:39 AM

The most glaring thing missing from the film is of course, Golding's language and the way it pictures the characters mental states as they 'devolve' the film can capture the island better, this is true. The pig's head on a stick is more of a shock in the book, I think, as everyone does it their own head. - @Friday, July 12, 2013 11:19 PM

Of course I know your opinion. I wanted to see reasons. Chaotic atmosphere of the island is absent in the book. In the book characters is like a man who wants to prove their philosphy and alegory that underlined in the book can be realized in early pages. these are mine reasons. - @Friday, July 12, 2013 11:11 PM

I disagree, Reginald. But if you prefer the film, that's OK. - @Friday, July 12, 2013 10:45 PM
