Pretty Much Nuthin' Flawed about this Mucho'- Primo Slice of Hard Livin' Peckinpah Pie ... All this griping 'n prattling on by so-called scholars and biographers about two-fisted Sam's unrealized failure with this crackerjack Heston vehicle, with the common assertion being that this is one of Peckinpah's monumentally "flawed" efforts; I would most certainly disagree with their most curious accusations. This is an exciting, righteously rousing, "PANAVISION"-perfect epic, boisterously scored to perfection by an awesome Amfitheatrof,; with a gorgeous <WideScreen> aesthetic, deliciously filled to the ever-so gritty edges with a treasure trove of top-notch American character faces. Damned good of Heston to defer his remaining salary, heroically enabling this magnificent, runaway auteur picture show to be wrapped and in the can, I reckon. Sorry, but Daniele Amfithearof's original movie score for "Major Dundee" is better than Caliendo's score for the 2005 release. One lesson Peckinpah learned from this movie, according to the commentary track on "The Wild Bunch", was to make sure that all his shooting locations were relatively close to to Mexican towns or cities, civilization,even if the location itself looked raw and primitive. The story goes that the producer of "Major Dundee" wanted to fire Peckinpah, he was over budget and behind schedule. Charlton Heston offered to forego his $250,000 if the studio let Peckinpah finish the movie. Immediately, the studio accepted this offer, much to the horror of Heston's agent, who lost his 10% fee. So Peckinpah finished "Major Dundee", a movie that gave a lot of Hollywood stuntmen steady work. One stuntman on this movie, Roy Sickner, even got his sole writing credit later on "The Wild Bunch", as a co-story credit. - @Tuesday, April 11, 2017 4:30 AM

Every time I watch a TFH with Michael, I'm reminded how far out of the loop I actually am. I miss all the good ones because, let me guess, The Director's Guild had a screening of Major Dundee at The Egyptian or Sony had a revival screening at the Cinerama Dome and I missed it because I'm in a small town outside of California now.
