A fun way to rewatch the film -- assume Gabriel Byrne's character is homosexual and interested in Albert Finney, and it works just as well, perhaps better, than if you assume Byrne is straight. - @Thursday, October 18, 2018 2:56 PM

From a true, dedicated Coen Brothers fan, Miller's Crossing is my favorite. Perfect movie. - @Monday, April 16, 2018 2:45 AM

Not enough attention is given to the late Jon Polito for his great performance in this film! - @Friday, February 9, 2018 9:48 PM

I really wish that Barry Sonnenfeld would go back to being a cinematographer. The sooner the better. - @Thursday, February 18, 2016 6:36 PM

I'm a huge Hammett fan and recently read through a bunch of his short stories. A lot of lines in Miller's Crossing come right out of the short stories. It's like they took the structure of the Glass Key but decided that they would pay tribute to Hammett's whole catalog as well. Love Miller's Crossing. Want them to do Red Harvest straight up. - @Tuesday, January 26, 2016 7:15 AM

Production note: Albert Finney was not the first choice for the film. Trey Wilson was, but he died suddenly while we were in pre-production. I remember going into the office over the weekend to fax the script to Finney's agent. (I was a PA on the film, worked on it for 9 months from the time the production office opened in NO until it closed). - @Tuesday, October 27, 2015 8:10 PM

I completely agreed Mr. Olson, there's a lot to love about this film, Albert Finney, Gabriel Byrne, the wonderful dialogue, etc. But the Danny Boy sequence is pure cinematic brilliance. - and is interesting to compare with the opening scene of The Watchmen. - @Monday, February 9, 2015 1:50 PM

I first remember watching this film when I was twenty years old and I was blown away by it. It has everything going for it....an amazing script, beautiful camerawork from Barry Sonnerfeld,Carter Burwells highly emotive film score and a collection of amazing acting performances from the likes of Gabriel Byrne,Albert Finney,Marcia Gay Harden and John Turturro. In short This is,and remains,Ethan and Joel Coens greatest film......it`s also one of the greatest gangster films of all time. - @Monday, January 26, 2015 10:29 AM

By far my favorite Coen Brothers film, and on my top ten film list of all time.Marcia Gay Harden's career basically started with this film.Just a glorious film,I've seen it twenty times and it never gets old. - @Friday, September 27, 2013 3:10 AM

Yeah I probably should just go watch it again. I just thought that there must be something I'm missing here. Because it's obvious that it's well made. - @Saturday, September 22, 2012 11:56 PM

Watch it, think, use your mind, that's the good thing about movies, some of them don't give you an obvious answer. - @Saturday, September 22, 2012 12:40 PM

This is all from memory I watched it years ago and didn't really think about it. It was only a few months back that a friend of mine told me about how it's became a sort of cult film. So I'm sorry if I don't remember everything. And your right I really should see it again. But I've never had a good reason to just sit down and watch it again you know. But yeah there friend gets a heart attack then they go bowling and the old guy talks and that's all I remember. I just wanna know the why. - @Friday, September 21, 2012 8:52 PM

Jonathan Elfving
You seriously can't see where that went? Dude, watch it again you are obviously judging it without knowing a gosh darn thing! - @Friday, September 21, 2012 8:05 PM

Adam Szlamp
That makes perfect sense. Thanks man. Okay then why does there best friend have to die from a story stand point I don't remember it leading anywhere? I'll what I found the funniest in the movie and that was John Goodman as Walter I think he's suppose to be a parody Narm vets whining about Narm all the time, and always cocking his pistol which is bad if you know anything about guns. - @Friday, September 21, 2012 1:58 PM

The dream sequence is kinda great because it uses small things that The Dudes subconscious has picked up during the rest of the movie, one of those things(or two) is the art done by Maude which has been referred to be strongly vaginal, and the porno starring Karl Hungus. Hence, looking up at women's skirts. GOT IT? - @Friday, September 21, 2012 1:46 PM

Adam Szlamp
I didn't get why it's there why do we need a scene where he flies and look under women skirts. I didn't laugh, I just thought why is this here. - @Thursday, September 20, 2012 6:03 PM

Jonathan Elfving
Why, were you offended by that? Does every single thing in a movie need to have a point? Is it possible that maybe the scene was suppose to show that even when The Dude is trying to settle things the right way he ends up drugged, beaten and left on a sidewalk by a cab? Could it be because it´s kind of hillarious, even though you obviously didn't think that? This is my favourite movie, and I'll defend it to death, but fortunately most people I know like it a lot. So it's all good. - @Thursday, September 20, 2012 4:08 PM

What was the point of the Dude tripping balls? - @Thursday, September 20, 2012 8:09 AM

I guess you have to have a sense of humour to enjoy it, or heart, or brains, or... - @Wednesday, September 19, 2012 7:38 PM

Could you explain to me why The Big Lebowski is considered a great movie? I watched it and didn't really find it all that funny just very trippy with silly over the top characters and an unsatisfying ending it just stops and feels like a waste of time. - @Wednesday, September 19, 2012 7:16 PM
