Rango is a pet chameleon always on the lookout for action and adventure, except the fake kind, where he directs it and acts in it. After a car accident, he winds up in an old western town called Dirt. What this town needs the most is water, but they also need a hero and a sheriff. The thirsty Rango instantly takes on the role of both and selfishly agrees to take on the case of their missing water.

I watched this movie again today. Still looks so good! Even for a movie that was made six years ago! And the movie as a whole is fascinating from the themes, to the story, the characters and their designs, the music and the powerful symbolism. I just started checking out some of these CG cartoons. Seems to be a lot of difference in the visuals from film to film. In some of the more highly regarded movies, like Finding Nemo or The Incredibles, the animation is very basic, and the lighting very uniform and bland, though they do have bright colors. Just sort of non-cinematic, lacking eye-candy and cool shots. . . . Other movies, like Legend of the Guardians, Moana, or How to Train your Dragon, and possibly Rango here, seem light years ahead of those other films. And it doesn't appear like anyone seems to take that into account when rating these movies. Comparing Finding Nemo to How to Train Your Dragon is like comparing The Anchorman to Lord of the Rings in terms of quality. Not even in the same league, visually speaking.
