Christopher Lee and Hammer Horror reach their peak of Dracula movie perfection after several lame attempts. 'Scars of Dracula' is Spooky, like a Halloween night, and Gothic. It's all about the ere setting, more so than character development, though it has characters that propel themselves quickly from their storyline, into Dracula's. This is THE MOVIE for a spooky Halloween Night, and the pentacle of Hammer Horror Dracula production, before the decline. Sometimes, Scars is marked as the decline, because it doesn't propel the story out of it's Gothic roots. I say, "Thank Goodness for That!" It perfects the story and momentum, keeping the action at Dracula's castles, rather than where more traditional "Bram Stoker" Dracula movies fail; they try to put Dracula everywhere, following him around the world laboriously, or explain Lucy, Mina, Jonathan and Van Helsing to a fault. ...but none of that waste here. Perhaps the only drawback is that it does have more violence and blood than the other Hammer Horror's, and there is brief rear nudity and an R-rating. My guess is that this movie is never shown on TV because, maybe, they lost the edited-for-TV-version and simply can't show what they have on hand. Without a doubt, this is the version that should be shown on a spooky Halloween night. The first Hammer Horror Dracula movie was titled 'Horror of Dracula' which laboriously tries to follow Bram Stokers painstakingly dark story line. This Dracula movie (their 5th?) totally reinvents the Dracula storyline, but unlike other's which remove the Gothic and Spooky sensory experiences, this one adds MORE. There's the stone Castle perched high atop a mountain. Captives scaling its wall by rope. Dracula ascending it vertically, getting to and fro, his tomb has no other exits. A seductive vampiress lures a would be captive inside, while Quasimodo (Klove) escorts him to his room. Horse Drawn Carriages carry Captives to the castle, a Quasimodo Serves, Wolves howl. Owls screech. Wind Blows swirling mists and vapors, nearly blowing victims off the edge. Thunder Claps. Dracula's Vampire Bat Hisses, Lightning Strikes and Fire Burns. The castle has Gothic stone walls (not Victorian), a huge fireplace with roaring fire, Standing Armour, Swords, Knives, Red Drapes everywhere... and a wine cabinet. The audio is a Hammer's best soundtrack, full of nature sounds at the proper times, or the period's best dramatic scores of the period, but only as the moment suits the need. Dracula is both a perfect count, serving wine, seducing females ...and also a raging nightmarish attacking vampire. We see Christopher Lee portray his nonchalant side, and fear, and pain, and power, evil and rage ..his Best acting ever. This movie that made me afraid of the dark as a kid. Buy this one for DVD, which will be nearly impossible because it's out-of-print, and for no good reason. It's quite a shame that they still promote junk like Taste the Blood of Dracula instead. - @Tuesday, December 19, 2017 2:42 PM

1:12 all I can think about is Dennis Waterman doing that scene in a similar vein as if he was still in The Sweeney. Just change the line to "You will tell me everything, you slag! Tell me" and perfect. Maybe if Dracula hired Terry Mccann as his servant instead of The Doctor he might have survived this one ;-) - @Saturday, December 9, 2017 1:46 AM

- @Saturday, April 4, 2015 3:34 PM
